Overview

API Status Check tells you whether an online service is down right now. Ask about ChatGPT, GitHub, AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, Discord, Slack, Zoom, Stripe, Shopify, Cloudflare, Steam, Fortnite or about 270 other apps and APIs, by name or by domain. It reads the service's official status page at the moment you ask and reports the overall state, which components are affected, any active incidents and when they started, with a link to the official status page. Ask about the past too: it lists the incidents a service has published over the last days or weeks, with impact and how long each lasted, so you can see whether a problem is new or recurring. Useful when something stops working and you want to know whether it is you or them: a developer seeing errors from a third-party API, a team whose tools are failing, or anyone whose app will not load. Limitations: it covers a fixed list of about 285 services and says so when a name is not on it. A status page shows what the vendor has acknowledged; problems limited to one region, network or account may not appear there. For services that publish no status feed it can only check whether the service's API responds, and it says when that is what it did.

Tools

check_service_status

Claude
Use this when the user asks whether an online service, app, website or API is down, having an outage or problems right now, or why it is not working (ChatGPT, Discord, GitHub, AWS, Stripe, Slack, Zoom, Steam and about 280 more). Reads the vendor's own status page during the call and returns the overall state, affected components, active incidents and a link to the official status page; when the vendor publishes no readable status feed it checks whether the service's API endpoint responds instead, and says which it did. Accepts a name or a domain. Do not use it for private or self-hosted systems, single websites that are not a known service, or the user's own server — it only covers the services it tracks.

list_recent_incidents

Claude
Use this when the user asks about a service's recent or past outages, incidents or reliability ("has Discord had outages this week?", "how often is OpenAI down?"). Returns incidents the vendor published on its own status page in the last N days (default 14, max 90), newest first, with start and resolve times and impact. Reports covered:false when no incident record exists for the service, which is not the same as zero incidents. Do not use it to answer whether a service is down right now; it reports past incidents, not current status.
