Overview

Chiipin keeps track of shared costs with the people you travel and live with. Connect it to ask who owes whom, see recent bills and upcoming household bills like rent, add a bill and split it, record a payment someone made you, and confirm or decline payments waiting on you. Chiipin only keeps the record — it never moves money. Bills and payments you add here appear in the Chiipin iPhone app and on the web for everyone in the group. You sign in with the same Apple or Google account you use in Chiipin and choose what to allow. Disconnect any time in Chiipin under Profile › Connected apps.

add_bill

Adds a shared bill to a group and splits it. By default the amount is split evenly between everyone in the group and the person paid it. Use splitAmong to split evenly between some members only, or exactAmounts to give each person an exact amount (they must add up to the total). Chiipin only records the bill; no money moves.

get_balances

Who owes the person and whom they owe. Without groupId: one line per person across all groups, in the person’s home currency. With groupId: every member’s net balance in that group (positive means the group owes them).

get_settle_up_plan

The fewest payments that settle a group: who should pay whom, and how much. Read-only; it records nothing.

The groups the person belongs to: trips and other shared-expense groups, and households (shared homes with recurring bills). Returns each group id and its current members with their member ids.

list_pending_payments

Payments recorded between the person and others that are not confirmed yet: those waiting for the person to confirm (someone says they paid them) and those the person recorded that the other side has not confirmed. Each has a payment id.

list_recent_bills

The most recent bills, newest first, with who paid, the person’s own share and whether that share is paid. Optionally limited to one group.

list_upcoming_household_bills

Recurring household bills (rent, utilities, internet…) coming due in the next few days, with due dates in each household’s own time zone. Amounts marked estimate vary month to month.

mark_my_share_paid

ChatGPT

Tells whoever paid a bill that the person has paid them their share. It waits for the payer to confirm. Chiipin only records it; no money moves.

record_payment

Records a payment that has already been made, outside Chiipin (cash, bank transfer…), between the person and someone they share a group with. It is a record of something that happened, not a way to pay: Chiipin cannot send, request or schedule money, so a payment that has not been made yet is not something this records. direction i_paid: the person paid them; it waits for the other person to confirm. direction they_paid_me: they paid the person; it counts at once.

respond_to_payment

ChatGPT

Answers a payment someone recorded as paid to the person: confirm clears what they owed, decline says the money never arrived. Only the person who received it can answer, and the answer is final.
