Overview

DeepL brings high-accuracy translation into ChatGPT. Translate text across 100+ languages, and translate entire documents (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, PDF, HTML, plain text, subtitles, XLIFF) while preserving their original layout and formatting. Glossaries, style rules, and custom instructions from the user's DeepL account are applied to keep terminology and tone consistent, and DeepL Write rephrases or corrects text for grammar, typos, style, and tone. Connects to the user's existing DeepL account via OAuth.

Tools

correct-text

ChatGPT
Correct one or more texts for typos, grammar and punctuation errors using DeepL.

create-custom-instruction

ChatGPT
Create a custom instruction in a visible style rule set. A translation that passes that set's styleId applies the instruction; it does not have to be repeated on the translate call.

create-glossary

ChatGPT
Create an empty glossary. Add its terms afterwards with update-glossary-entries, which also decides the language pairs it covers. Pass the returned glossary id to translate-text to apply it.

create-style-rule-set

ChatGPT
Create an empty style rule set. Use list-predefined-style-rules first, then update-style-rule-set to enable the rules it should carry.

delete-custom-instruction

ChatGPT
Permanently delete a custom instruction. A hidden or missing instruction is reported as not found or not accessible.

delete-glossary

ChatGPT
Permanently delete a glossary and all of its dictionaries. Translations that name it will fail afterwards. Use list-glossaries to find the glossary id.

delete-glossary-dictionary

ChatGPT
Permanently delete one language pair's dictionary, with all its entries, from a glossary. The glossary's other dictionaries remain. Use get-glossary-info to see which language pairs it has.

delete-style-rule-set

ChatGPT
Permanently delete a style rule set, its enabled style rules and its custom instructions.

download-document

ChatGPT
Get a download link for a translated document once its status is 'done'. Returns 'downloadUrl', a short-lived, single-use link. Fetch it with an HTTP GET (the URL carries its own token, so do not add an Authorization header), or present it to the user. The link works only once. The bytes are streamed from the server and never pass through this conversation. For an upload with several target languages: omit 'targetLang' to get one link per finished language, or pass it to get that one language.

get-custom-instruction

ChatGPT
Get a single custom instruction from a style rule set.

get-document-status

ChatGPT
Check the translation status of a document session. Returns one of: 'awaiting_upload' (file not received yet), 'queued', 'translating', 'done', or 'error'. The additive 'uploadStatus' is 'awaiting', 'uploading', or 'complete' when known. Any of the upload's session ids reports the whole upload: 'status' covers every target language ('translating' while any language still runs, 'error' only when they all failed) and 'targets' reports each language on its own. Once the status is 'done', call download-document.

get-glossary-dictionary-entries

ChatGPT
Get all entries in a glossary's dictionary for a specific language pair. Entries are returned as TSV (tab-separated source/target pairs, newline-separated).

get-glossary-info

ChatGPT
Get metadata for a single glossary: name, available dictionaries, and creation time. This does not fetch any glossary entries. Use get-glossary-dictionary-entries to fetch entries.

get-source-languages

ChatGPT
Get the source language codes supported by DeepL for translation, e.g. 'EN' or 'DE'. Use one of these for the sourceLang parameter of translate-text.

get-style-rule-set

ChatGPT
Get a single style rule set with full detail: its enabled predefined style rules and its custom instructions. A translation that passes this set's styleId applies both; the instructions do not have to be repeated on the translate call.

get-target-languages

ChatGPT
Get the target language codes supported by DeepL for translation, e.g. 'EN-US' or 'DE'. Use one of these for the targetLang parameter of translate-text.

list-assets

ChatGPT
List the assets (files and folders) in a DeepL Link provider. The provider must have status Connected in list-providers; if it is not connected, ask the user to connect it at https://www.deepl.com/your-account/my-apps. Entries with isFolder=true are folders — pass their id as folderId to list their contents. To find a file in a known folder, list the folders: start without folderId and filter, then follow the folder ids. A search with filter alone uses the provider's search index and can miss a file added in the last minutes. With folderId, filter matches only that folder's entries and has no such delay. unsupportedReason, when set, explains why an asset cannot be translated. Pass the id of a file as source to upload-document-from-link.

list-glossaries

ChatGPT
List all translation glossaries with metadata: id, name, available dictionaries, and creation time. This does not fetch any glossary entries. Use get-glossary-dictionary-entries to fetch entries. Every tool here works on translation glossaries only, and only on the ids this tool returns.

list-predefined-style-rules

ChatGPT
List the predefined style rules a style rule set can enable, for one authoring language, plus the full supported-language list. These are DeepL's own rules; they are not the caller's saved style rule sets (use list-style-rule-sets for those). Omit language only when the rules for every language are needed. A supported language with no rules entry supports custom instructions only.

list-providers

ChatGPT
List the external storage providers (e.g. OneDrive, Google Drive, SharePoint) that DeepL Link exposes to the caller, with each provider's connection status and capabilities. Use list-assets with a returned providerId to browse a connected provider's files. When the provider the user needs has status NotConnected or Unconfigured, give the user connectUrl to connect it or to finish its setup, and continue without that provider in the same turn (for a document, call upload-document).

list-style-rule-sets

ChatGPT
List the caller's style rule sets with metadata: id, name, and authoring language. Use get-style-rule-set to fetch the full detail including its enabled style rules and custom instructions. The ids returned here are style rule set ids, not glossary ids: the glossary tools reject them.

remove-glossary-entries

ChatGPT
Permanently delete entries from a glossary's dictionary for one language pair, named by their source terms. The dictionary's other entries are left alone. Read the current entries with get-glossary-dictionary-entries first; a source term that is not in the dictionary is reported back in notFound rather than failing the call.

rename-glossary

ChatGPT
Rename a glossary. Its entries are untouched. Use list-glossaries to find the glossary id.

rephrase-text

ChatGPT
Rephrase text in the same or a different language using DeepL.

replace-glossary-dictionary

ChatGPT
Replace every entry in a glossary's dictionary for one language pair with the entries you send: anything you leave out is deleted. Read the current entries with get-glossary-dictionary-entries first, or use update-glossary-entries to add and change entries without dropping the rest. If the glossary has no dictionary for the language pair yet, one is created. To remove the language pair altogether use delete-glossary-dictionary.

translate-text

ChatGPT
Translate text to one or more target languages using DeepL. Use this for plain text provided directly in the conversation — snippets, strings, messages, or passages pasted by the user. Do not use this to translate a file or document (e.g. Word, PowerPoint, Excel, PDF, HTML, .txt, .srt, .xlf/.xliff) — even if you can already read its contents — because it returns plain text and discards the document's layout and formatting. For files, use upload-document instead. Review the optional parameters and use those that apply for best results. When using a glossary, you must specify the source language as well as the target language. If the user references a glossary by name, use list-glossaries to look up its id. An unknown glossaryId is silently ignored (translation proceeds without it). An administrator may assign a language system (style profile) to the account, whose glossaries and style rule set can replace the glossaryId and styleId passed here; 'appliedCustomizations' in the result says so when it happened, per target language. Every target language is translated in one call; the result holds one entry per language, and a language DeepL refused is reported in 'failures' while the others still translate. Multiple texts are supported and translated independently; within each target language, results correlate to the inputs by position. If any text is blank, the whole request is rejected.

update-custom-instruction

ChatGPT
Fully replace a custom instruction. label and prompt are both required even when only one changes. A hidden or missing instruction is reported as not found or not accessible.

update-glossary-entries

ChatGPT
Add or change entries in a glossary's dictionary for one language pair. The entries you send are merged: a new source term is added, a source term already in the dictionary gets the target term you send, and every other entry is left alone. If the glossary has no dictionary for the language pair yet, one is created. Use remove-glossary-entries to delete entries.

update-style-rule-set

ChatGPT
Update a style rule set. version and language must come from the latest get-style-rule-set. rules is replacement data: omit it to preserve the enabled style rules, pass {} to disable all of them, or pass the complete desired enabled set using list-predefined-style-rules keys.

upload-document

ChatGPT
Translate a whole file or document, preserving its original layout and formatting. Use this — not translate-text — whenever the user wants to translate a file or document (rather than text typed into the conversation), even if its contents are already visible to you; translate-text would strip the formatting. For plain text pasted into the conversation, use translate-text instead. Supported file extensions in this deployment: .docx, .doc, .pptx, .ppt, .xlsx, .xls, .pdf, .htm, .html, .txt, .xlf, .xliff, .srt, .png, .jpg, .jpeg. PNG and JPEG files are limited to 3 MB; limits for other formats depend on the user's plan. Always start a document translation with this call, and pass 'filename' with the file's extension. It reserves a short-lived upload session and returns 'sessionId' and 'uploadUrl'; it does not upload the file itself, and nothing is translated or billed until the file arrives. If the call had no 'filename', first call upload-document again with it. Then do exactly one of the following: 1. Upload the source file bytes: HTTP PUT the raw bytes to 'uploadUrl' with 'Content-Type: application/octet-stream'. 2. If you cannot access or transfer the file bytes, immediately call upload-document-show-fallback-widget with the returned 'sessionId'; it shows the user an upload widget where they select the file. Being unable to upload the bytes directly is an expected, recoverable condition: the next step is then to call upload-document-show-fallback-widget. Pass all target languages in one call rather than one call per language: the file is then uploaded only once. Each language is translated and billed separately once the file arrives. A language DeepL refuses is listed in 'failures' while the others still translate. An administrator may assign a language system (style profile) to the account, whose glossaries and style rule set can replace the glossaryId and styleId passed here; 'appliedCustomizations' on a target says so when it happened, per target language.

upload-document-show-fallback-widget

ChatGPT
Second step of a document translation, for when the file bytes cannot be sent to 'uploadUrl': shows the user an upload widget for the upload session that upload-document already reserved, so they can select the file themselves. Call it with the 'sessionId' returned by upload-document right after that call, whenever you cannot access or transfer the file bytes. The widget tracks the translation and offers the download.
