Overview

DesignMD turns any public website or Figma file into a DESIGN.md: a markdown spec of its design system (colors, typography, spacing, radius, shadows and components) that coding agents follow when they write UI. More than 74,000 DESIGN.md files have been made on designmd.me. With the DesignMD connector, Claude can: • Search the Discover catalogue of well-known design systems (Notion, Linear, Stripe, Spotify and more) and read them without an account • Read a whole DESIGN.md or only the sections it needs, as markdown or raw tokens • Compare two design systems side by side • Generate a new DESIGN.md from any public website • Remix a design system with your own colors, fonts, radius and spacing, then share it • Get a live HTML preview of a design system Searching, reading and comparing work right away. The first time you ask for something on your account, like generating a DESIGN.md, DesignMD opens so you can sign in and approve access. You can revoke it from your profile at any time. Generating costs 4 credits (8 for multi-page), and reusing one you made for the same site in the last 10 days is free.

build_preview

Claude

Build the HTML preview for one of the user's own design systems. Uses credits from the user's DesignMD account. Runs in the background; check with get_preview after a minute.

compare_designs

Claude

Compare two design systems side by side: colors, type scale, corners, spacing, shadows and components, measured from the live sites. Takes two refs (Discover slugs, share ids or your own generation ids).

generate_design

Claude

Extract the design system of any public website into a DESIGN.md. Uses credits from the user's DesignMD account; if the user made one for the same URL in the last 10 days, that one is reused. Takes 1–2 minutes: if the result says status "running", call get_generation with the generation_id.

get_account

Show the signed-in DesignMD account and its credit balance.

get_design

Get a design system as DESIGN.md (markdown) or as raw tokens (JSON). ref is a Discover slug ('notion'), a share id or URL, or a generation id. Discover files need no sign-in; private files need the owner's account. Pass sections to get only part of it.

get_generation

Claude

Get the status of a generation started by generate_design, and its DESIGN.md once done. Pass the generation_id or job_id it returned.

get_preview

Claude

Get the link to a design system's HTML preview: a live page showing its colors, type and components. If it hasn't been built, use build_preview.

list_my_designs

Claude

List the signed-in user's own design systems (from websites, Figma files and remixes), newest first.

remix_design

Claude

Make a new design system from an existing one with your changes: brand colors, fonts, corner radius, spacing and shadow strength. Saves it to the user's account as a new DESIGN.md and returns its ref and link.

search_designs

Claude

Find design systems to build with: the DesignMD Discover catalogue of well-known sites (no sign-in needed), plus the signed-in user's own when include_mine is true. Returns refs to pass to get_design or compare_designs.

share_design

Claude

Make one of the user's own design systems public (anyone with the link can view it) or private again, and return its link.
