Overview

Write a clear, engaging description that highlights what your plugin does and why people will love it. Focus on concrete user value and avoid exaggerative, misleading claims. This will appear publicly on your plugin’s directory page. Connect ChatGPT directly to your Docs, so drafting and revising documents happens in the same place as the rest of your work: no copying text back and forth between a chat window and a browser tab. Ask for a document by name and it searches your Drive to find it, then reads the contents back as clean markdown you can quote, summarize, translate or rework. Ask for something new and it creates the document and writes the first draft. From there you get real editing, not just appending: insert and replace text anywhere in the document, replace every occurrence of a phrase in one pass, restyle paragraphs and individual runs of text, and turn lists into proper bullets or strip them back out. Tables are fully supported: create them, add or remove rows and columns, merge cells, style rows and cells, and pin header rows so they repeat across pages. So is the document furniture most tools skip: headers, footers, footnotes, page and section breaks, page layout settings, inline images, dates and people chips. Every edit starts by inspecting the document's actual structure, so changes land in the right place instead of clobbering the surrounding text, and related changes are applied together as a single batch rather than one risky rewrite. Word files in your Drive work too: .docx is converted so it can be read and edited like anything else. It fits naturally into recurring document work: updating status reports, filling out templates, cleaning up formatting across a long file, and reworking a draft someone else started.

Tools

convert_docx_doc

ChatGPT
Converts a DOCX document into an editable document format.

create_doc

ChatGPT
Creates a new document and optionally inserts initial content.

docs_copy_doc

ChatGPT
Creates a native copy of an existing Google Doc (all tabs, styles, tables, lists, chips, headers and footers preserved) and returns the new document's id and link. Use it when a document serves as a template or reference for a new deliverable: copy it, then fill or adapt the COPY and leave the source untouched. Not for .docx files — convert those first.

docs_create_footnote

ChatGPT
Creates a Footnote segment and inserts a new FootnoteReference to it at the given location in a document.

docs_create_header

ChatGPT
Creates a header in a document.

docs_create_named_range

ChatGPT
Creates a NamedRange referencing the given range in a document.

docs_create_paragraph_bullets

ChatGPT
Creates bullets for all paragraphs that overlap with the given range in a document.

docs_delete_comment

ChatGPT
Permanently deletes a comment thread, or a single reply when postId is given. Only the author's own comments can be deleted (Google rejects others). Prefer resolving (docs_reply_comment with RESOLVE) over deleting; delete only comments you created in this conversation or that the user explicitly asked to remove.

docs_delete_content_range

ChatGPT
Deletes content from a document within the specified range.

docs_delete_header

ChatGPT
Deletes a header from a document.

docs_delete_named_range

ChatGPT
Deletes a NamedRange from a document.

docs_delete_paragraph_bullets

ChatGPT
Deletes bullets from all paragraphs that overlap with the given range in a document.

docs_delete_positioned_object

ChatGPT
Deletes a positioned object from a document.

docs_delete_table_column

ChatGPT
Deletes a column from a table in a document.

docs_delete_table_row

ChatGPT
Deletes a row from a table in a document.

docs_insert_comment

ChatGPT
Adds a comment thread anchored to a text range of the document, optionally assigned to a collaborator. The document text is not changed. Use it to review, give feedback, ask questions or flag issues on specific passages; one comment per passage, anchored to the exact sentence or phrase it is about (not the whole document). Returns the new commentId.

docs_insert_date

ChatGPT
Inserts a date at the specified location in a document.

docs_insert_inline_image

ChatGPT
Inserts a positioned image with text wrapping at the specified paragraph in a document.

docs_insert_page_break

ChatGPT
Inserts a page break at the specified location in a document.

docs_insert_person

ChatGPT
Inserts a person mention at the specified location in a document.

docs_insert_section_break

ChatGPT
Inserts a section break at the specified location in a document.

docs_insert_table

ChatGPT
Inserts a table at the specified location in a document. Optionally populates cells with content via the data parameter — always use data to fill cell values instead of inserting text into cells manually.

docs_insert_table_column

ChatGPT
Inserts an empty column into a table in a document.

docs_insert_table_row

ChatGPT
Inserts an empty row into a table in a document.

docs_insert_text

ChatGPT
Inserts plain text without formatting at the specified location in a document.

docs_list_comments

ChatGPT
Lists the comment threads of a document (commentId, status, anchored index range, quoted text, author, content, assignee, replies with postId) and its suggested edits (suggestionId, status, author, summary). Read it before replying to, resolving or deleting a comment, before accepting or rejecting a suggestion, and after inserting a comment to confirm it landed. Anchor ranges are body indexes of the first tab unless a tab is named.

docs_merge_table_cells

ChatGPT
Merges cells in a table in a document.

docs_pin_table_header_rows

ChatGPT
Updates the number of pinned header rows in a table in a document.

docs_replace_all_text

ChatGPT
Replaces all instances of text matching a criteria with replacement text in a document.

docs_replace_content_range

ChatGPT
Atomically replaces the content of a range with new text in one operation, preserving the paragraph break at the end of the range. Safer than a separate delete + insert.

docs_replace_image

ChatGPT
Replaces an existing image with a new image in a document.

docs_replace_named_range_content

ChatGPT
Replaces the content in a named range in a document.

docs_reply_comment

ChatGPT
Replies to a comment or suggestion thread, resolves a comment thread (action RESOLVE, optionally with a closing reply) or reopens one (REOPEN). Read the thread with docs_list_comments first so the reply answers what was actually asked; resolve only threads whose request is done or that the user told you to close.

docs_resolve_suggestion

ChatGPT
Accepts, rejects or withdraws one suggested edit by suggestionId. Read the suggestion summary with docs_list_comments first; accept or reject other people's suggestions only when the user asked for that outcome, and re-read the document afterwards because accepting or rejecting changes the text and its indexes.

docs_suggest_edit

ChatGPT
Proposes a text change as a Google Docs SUGGESTION instead of editing directly: the owner sees it as a tracked change and accepts or rejects it. Three forms: replace (range + text), delete (range only), insert (location + text). Use it whenever the user asks to suggest, propose or track changes, or to review someone else's document without touching it. The range's trailing paragraph break is kept. Returns the created suggestionIds.

docs_unmerge_table_cells

ChatGPT
Unmerges cells in a table in a document.

docs_update_document_style

ChatGPT
Updates the style of the document.

docs_update_paragraph_style

ChatGPT
Updates the paragraph style at the specified range in a document.

docs_update_section_style

ChatGPT
Updates the section style of the specified range in a document.

docs_update_table_cell_style

ChatGPT
Updates the style of table cells in a document.

docs_update_table_column_properties

ChatGPT
Updates the properties of columns in a table in a document.

docs_update_table_row_style

ChatGPT
Updates the row style in a table in a document.

docs_update_text_style

ChatGPT
Updates the text style at the specified range in a document.

edit_doc_content

ChatGPT
Publishes the latest revision, then edits document content; use inspect_doc_structure first to retrieve document content.

get_doc

ChatGPT
Retrieves content of a document or a stored file (like .docx) identified by document_id.

get_doc_content

ChatGPT
Retrieves content as markdown of a document or a stored file (like .docx) identified by document_id.

inspect_doc_structure

ChatGPT
Returns document structure for editing; inaccessible files are inspected through a converted Google Docs copy that is removed from the user's Drive root afterward.

search_docs

ChatGPT
Searches for documents by name (mimeType filter).
