Overview

GateCast grades one US trip at a time, from A to F. Give it the date and one flight number (a direct flight) or two (a connection), and it returns the grade, how often the connection was missed (for a connection), and the basis for the grade: which of last year's days it rests on, with a note where a flight has little history. Grades come from a year of US Department of Transportation (BTS) on-time records, August 2025 to July 2026, at 99 US airports. Inbound and outbound delays are sampled together from the same days, because a bad day at a hub delays both flights. We checked the grades against about 1.23 million possible connections from weeks they were not built from. Connections graded A were missed about 7% of the time and F-graded about 27%, where a connection counts as missed when the real delays left less time than our estimate of how long the change takes (checked 17 October 2026). Grades are estimates from past flight records and carry no guarantee. Always check your airline's minimum connection time. For travel planning only; never for flight operations. Answers are history-based: for a future date, the grade reflects how those flights ran over the past year. US domestic flights only. GateCast sees only the flight numbers, date and airports sent to it, not your name, account or conversation. It keeps each answer (flights, date, grade, with nothing about who asked) for up to 6 hours so the same question gets the same answer, and keeps daily counts only. Free, one connection per request. Grades ONE itinerary someone has booked or is considering, from last year's US flight records: a direct flight (one flight number) or a connection (two flight numbers), A (best) to F, with how often the connection was missed. Times are last year's; tell the user to check the current timetable and their airline's minimum connection time, and always include the disclaimer. US domestic flights only. Pass the airports whenever the user has given them (or ask for them if the answer says the flight number flew more than one route). If the answer is not graded, say why in its words; never guess a grade. Report only what the answer says; do not add reasons, causes or advice of your own.
