Overview

GovBot Community Designations is a remote, read-only MCP server operated by Ideation Lab, Corp. It requires no account. It reports which federal designated areas contain an address, a point or a census tract, read live from the agencies' own map services, each result with its publishing agency, layer, designation year and retrieval time. What it returns: - HUD Qualified Census Tracts and Difficult Development Areas for the current designation year, with the tract, ZIP Code Tabulation Area or county that carries the designation. - Qualified Opportunity Zones designated in 2018 (2010 census tracts) and the tracts on the 2027 Opportunity Zone nomination eligibility list (2020 census tracts). - USDA Rural Development area maps: whether a location is inside an area mapped as ineligible by population for the housing, business, Intermediary Relending, Community Facilities, Water and Environmental, Electric and OneRD Guarantee programs. - Lists of designated tracts in a state or county, and the official name, administering agency, purpose, vintage and source page of each designation. Typical use: check the designations of a site or tract before reading a program's own rules, or list the designated tracts in a county. How results are qualified: a designation is not a program eligibility determination; designations change by year, and program rules, applications and final determinations are with the administering agency. Geocoded addresses are positions interpolated along street address ranges, not parcels. Not affiliated with HUD, USDA, the Treasury, the Census Bureau or any government agency. The server writes nothing.

Tools

describe_designations

Claude
Returns, for one designation or all of them, the official name, administering agency, legal authority where the source states one, geographic unit, program purpose, vintage, official source page URL and the agency service the data are read from; for HUD designations, the designation years and data-edit dates of the HUD eGIS layers currently published.

get_designations_at_point

Claude
Returns, for one latitude/longitude point, the federal designated areas that contain it, read live from HUD eGIS (Qualified Census Tracts, Difficult Development Areas, Opportunity Zones and the 2027 Opportunity Zone eligibility list) and the USDA Rural Development eligibility map service (areas ineligible by population for housing, business, Intermediary Relending, Community Facilities, Water and Environmental, Electric and OneRD Guarantee programs), with the containing state, county and 2020 census tract from the Census Bureau Geocoder. Each designation record carries its status, the designated area's identifiers, the designation year or vintage, the publishing agency's service and layer, and the retrieval time. USDA Rural Development layers map ineligible areas; a point outside them is reported as not in an ineligible area. A point outside U.S. Census geography is reported without USDA status.

get_designations_for_address

Claude
Matches a one-line U.S. street address with the Census Bureau Geocoder (benchmark Public_AR_Current) and returns the federal designated areas containing the matched point, read live from HUD eGIS (Qualified Census Tracts, Difficult Development Areas, Opportunity Zones and the 2027 Opportunity Zone eligibility list) and the USDA Rural Development eligibility map service (areas ineligible by population for housing, business, Intermediary Relending, Community Facilities, Water and Environmental, Electric and OneRD Guarantee programs). The matched coordinates are interpolated along the street segment's address range, not a parcel or building location. Other candidate matches, up to 4, are listed without designations. An address with no match is reported as zero matches.

get_designations_for_tract

Claude
Returns the tract-based designations for one 11-digit census tract GEOID from HUD eGIS: Qualified Census Tract status for the current designation year (and any later year HUD eGIS already publishes), Opportunity Zone status (2018 designations on 2010 tracts, matched by GEOID) and listing on the 2027 Opportunity Zone nomination eligibility list (2020 tracts). Difficult Development Areas and USDA Rural Development areas are not tract-based and are not evaluated here. Designations: hud_qct, opportunity_zone, opportunity_zone_2027_eligible.

list_designated_tracts

Claude
Lists census tracts with one tract-based designation within a state and optionally one county, from HUD eGIS, in GEOID order, 50 per page by default and at most 100, with the total count, the designation year or vintage and a cursor for the next page. Designations: hud_qct (Qualified Census Tracts; current designation year unless year is given), opportunity_zone (2018 designations, 2010 tracts) and opportunity_zone_2027_eligible (tracts on the 2027 nomination eligibility list, 2020 tracts).
