find_cfr_citation
ClaudeReturns the title, chapter, subchapter, part, subpart and section, with eCFR headings, that contain a cited CFR provision, and whether it exists on the title’s latest up-to-date date. Source: eCFR versioner API. Takes a title and optionally a part and section (a section needs its part). Hierarchy and headings only, not provision text; a provision that does not exist returns a typed not-found error.
get_bill_provisions
ClaudeReturns the sections of one bill text version from GovInfo (U.S. Government Publishing Office) with each section’s number, heading and division path and the U.S. Code sections, public laws, Statutes at Large and CFR provisions it cites, taken from the publisher’s citation markup; 40 sections per page with an index of the most-cited provisions. With a section number, returns that section’s text cut at 12,000 characters. Defaults to the latest published text version; a version code such as ih, rh, eh or enr selects another. Source: govinfo.gov, read live. Citations show what a section names or amends, not its effect on any regulation; a text version is not enacted law unless it is the enrolled version of a bill that became law.
get_cfr_section_text
ClaudeReturns the plain text of one CFR section as of a date (default: the title’s latest up-to-date date), cut at 16,000 characters with a truncation flag. Source: eCFR API renderer for the given title, part and section. eCFR is an editorial compilation, not the official legal edition; a part-level editorial note can precede the text. A section that does not exist on the date returns a typed not-found error; the effective date does not show the text is current law today.
get_congress_bill
ClaudeReturns metadata of one bill identified by Congress number, lowercase bill type and bill number: title, sponsor, introduction date, policy area, latest action, counts of actions, cosponsors, committees, subjects and text versions, and any Public Law numbers. Source: Congress.gov API v3. Bill text, cosponsor lists, amendments and votes are not returned.
list_congress_bill_actions
ClaudeReturns up to 20 legislative actions of one bill with date, type, source system, committees and action text cut at 300 characters. Source: Congress.gov API v3. Several rows can record one event from different source systems; the count is the publisher count for the bill.
list_congress_bill_summaries
ClaudeReturns up to three Congressional Research Service summaries of one bill, each an HTML fragment cut at 2,000 characters, with the action date, version and update date it describes. Source: Congress.gov API v3. A bill without a summary returns an empty list, which says nothing about its content.
list_congress_bills
ClaudeReturns one page of up to 30 bill records for a Congress number and bill type, optionally limited by a record update-date range and a text test on the fetched page, with title, introduction date and latest action text. Source: Congress.gov API v3. The text test applies only to the fetched page, so an empty result does not mean no bill matches; the total is the publisher count for the Congress and bill type.
search_cfr_text
ClaudeSearches eCFR text and returns up to 5 matching regulation excerpts per page with title, chapter, part and section hierarchy. Source: eCFR API. Query up to 200 characters; page 1 to 100. Hits are excerpts and references, not complete legal text or proof of current applicability; counts are source-reported and may be capped.
search_federal_register
ClaudeSearches Federal Register publications by a term of 2 to 200 characters and returns the first three hits of the first source page in source order, with publication metadata and official URLs. Source: FederalRegister.gov API. No date, agency or document-type filters. Hits are publication metadata, not full or currently codified legal text; the total is source-reported and may be capped; publication date is not an effective date.
search_regulations_gov_documents
ClaudeReturns one page of 5 to 25 Regulations.gov documents (rules, proposed rules, notices, supporting items) matching a keyword, agency acronym, docket ID, document type or one posted day, with docket, dates and comment-period flags. Source: Regulations.gov API v4. At least one filter is required. Public comments are not included, so results say nothing about public sentiment; counts are source-reported; comment-period flags are as of query time.
