decode_vin
ClaudeDecodes one 17-character vehicle identification number (VIN) with NHTSA's Product Information Catalog and Vehicle Listing (vPIC): make, manufacturer, model, model year, trim, series, body class, vehicle type, doors, drive type, primary fuel, engine cylinders and displacement, gross vehicle weight rating class and the assembly plant's company, city, state and country, with vPIC's decode error code and text. A VIN identifies a vehicle pattern and serial number, not an owner; vPIC holds no owner, registration or title data. Missing values mean NHTSA has no data for that variable.
get_recall_campaign
ClaudeReturns one NHTSA recall campaign by its NHTSA campaign number from the NHTSA recalls API: manufacturer, report received date, component, summary, consequence, remedy and notes in the agency's and manufacturer's wording, NHTSA action number, potential number of units affected, park-it, park-outside and over-the-air remedy flags, and the makes, models and model years covered (up to 300, with the total). A campaign number not found in the NHTSA recalls API is reported as not found.
list_vehicle_recalls
ClaudeLists the NHTSA safety recall campaigns recorded for one make, model and model year in the NHTSA recalls API, newest report first: campaign number, manufacturer, report received date, component, summary, consequence, remedy and notes in the agency's and manufacturer's wording, NHTSA action number, and NHTSA's park-it, park-outside and over-the-air remedy flags. Equipment, tire and child-seat campaigns appear when NHTSA links them to the vehicle. When no campaign is recorded, the models NHTSA lists with recalls for that make and year are returned for spelling checks. The listing covers the make, model and year, not the repair status of an individual vehicle.
