Overview

GovBot Public Data Catalogs & Statistics is a remote, read-only MCP server operated by Ideation Lab, Corp. It requires no account. It reads U.S. federal statistics and data catalogs live from their publishers and returns each result with its source and date. What it returns: - FEMA OpenFEMA: dataset discovery, field dictionaries and bounded pages of records, such as disaster declarations, assistance and NFIP datasets. - Census Bureau American Community Survey: 5-year estimates for states, counties and places, each with its margin of error, published label and period, and table and variable search. - Bureau of Labor Statistics: series observations with units, seasonal adjustment and preliminary flags, and ten widely used series such as the unemployment rate and CPI-U. - Data.gov: catalog search across federal, state, local and tribal publishers, and full dataset records with every distribution link. Each listed link is checked live and reported with its HTTP result and check time. How results are qualified: catalog records are metadata, not the data, and do not establish that data are current; a link check shows only that a publisher host answered; survey estimates carry margins of error; recent statistical values may be revised. Search results are bounded, and an empty result is not evidence that no data exist. Not affiliated with any government agency. The server writes nothing. Limit: 120 requests per minute per network.

Tools

get_acs_local_estimates

Claude
Returns American Community Survey 5-year estimates (1 to 10 variables) with margins of error and published variable labels for counties or places (cities, towns, census-designated places) in one state: one county or place by FIPS code, all of them, or those whose name contains given text, up to 100 rows per page. Source: U.S. Census Bureau ACS API (detailed, subject or data profile tables), read live. Values are five-year survey estimates with 90 percent margins of error; Census annotation codes in place of a value are returned as text.

get_bls_series

Claude
Returns observations for 1 to 10 Bureau of Labor Statistics series IDs over a span of up to 10 years, each with year, period, period name, value, preliminary and other footnotes, and the latest-value flag; with each series its units and seasonal adjustment where known (published catalog, the popular-series list, or the seasonal code in the series ID format) and its data.bls.gov page. Source: BLS Public Data API v2, read live. The API serves a limited number of requests per day; repeated requests within three hours are answered from a short cache.

get_datagov_dataset

Claude
Returns the catalog record of one Data.gov dataset by slug: title, full description, publisher and organization, contact point, keywords, themes, access level, license and rights where published, issued and modified dates, update frequency, temporal and spatial coverage as stated, every distribution with its format and download or access URL, landing page and the harvest source record, with a live check of up to 12 distribution and landing-page links (HTTP status, redirect target, or failure reason). Source: Data.gov catalog API v4 (U.S. General Services Administration), read live; link checks contact the publisher hosts. The record is the publisher’s metadata, not the data or its values.

get_openfema_dataset_fields

Claude
Returns the field dictionary of one OpenFEMA dataset, with field names, definitions and searchable-field flags, optionally only searchable fields. Source: FEMA OpenFEMA DataSetFields API for the selected dataset version. The count is fields, not records; field names and meanings vary by dataset.

get_state_acs_estimates

Claude
Returns requested American Community Survey 5-year estimates (1 to 12 variables) for one state FIPS code and survey year 2010 to 2025. Source: U.S. Census Bureau ACS API, dataset acs/acs5. State level only, with no county claim. Values are survey estimates over a five-year period, not counts of FEMA records.

list_openfema_datasets

Claude
Lists OpenFEMA dataset metadata, one row per dataset version, optionally matching text or an exact theme; latest non-deprecated versions by default. Source: FEMA OpenFEMA DataSets API. The count is datasets, not events or disasters; the catalog reflects current OpenFEMA metadata, and each dataset has its own date coverage.

query_openfema_records

Claude
Returns a bounded page (up to 25 records) from one named OpenFEMA dataset using an OData filter, from the latest non-deprecated dataset version. Source: FEMA OpenFEMA API. Dataset name only, no URL; data tables require a bounded filter. Row grain varies by dataset, and rows are not automatically distinct disasters, people or projects; geography and time coverage depend on the dataset.

search_census_acs_tables

Claude
With search text, returns up to 25 American Community Survey tables whose published title contains every word; with a table ID, returns that table’s estimate variables with their published labels, up to 150 per page. Source: U.S. Census Bureau ACS API metadata (groups and variables) for the year and dataset, read live. Variable names and labels change between years; a variable is defined only for the year and dataset shown.

search_datagov_datasets

Claude
Returns one page of up to 20 Data.gov catalog records matching text, keywords, a publishing organization or an organization type, with title, slug, publisher, organization and its type, abbreviated description, keywords, modified date, distribution titles and formats, landing page, and a live check of each record’s primary link (first download URL, else access URL, else landing page). With only_reachable, records whose primary link returns not found, gone or a server error, or whose host is unknown or refuses the connection, are left out and counted; links that give no answer within 4 seconds are kept and marked unconfirmed. Source: Data.gov catalog API v4 (U.S. General Services Administration), read live; link checks contact the publisher hosts. Records are catalog metadata registered by federal, state, local and tribal publishers, not the data or its values; the catalog reports no total, and a page cursor continues the search.
