Overview

GovBot Tides, Elevation & Watersheds is a remote, read-only MCP server operated by Ideation Lab, Corp. It requires no account. It reads the agencies' own services live and states the publisher, endpoint and retrieval time with every result. What it returns: - NOAA CO-OPS tide and water level stations near a latitude and longitude, nearest first, with whether each reports observations or publishes predictions. - Observed water levels for a station and date range (six-minute, verified hourly, or verified high and low waters), with the datum, units, time zone and quality status of each value. - Astronomical tide predictions for a station and date range (high and low, hourly or six-minute). - Tidal and geodetic datums at a station (MLLW, MHHW, MSL, NAVD88 and others), the tidal datum epoch and recorded extremes. - Ground elevation at a point from the USGS 3D Elevation Program, with the source resolution and acquisition date. - The USGS hydrologic units (HUC8, HUC10, HUC12, and HUC2 to HUC6 on request) containing a point. Typical use: read the tides and datums at the station nearest a waterfront site, compare a terrain elevation with a station's tidal datums, or identify the watershed of a location. How results are qualified: water levels are observations or astronomical predictions at a station, not warnings or forecasts; current hazards are the National Weather Service's to announce. Elevations are terrain-model values, not surveyed elevations or determinations about any property. Watershed boundaries are not site-specific determinations. Not affiliated with NOAA, the U.S. Geological Survey or any government agency. The server writes nothing.

Tools

find_tide_stations_near_point

Claude
Lists NOAA CO-OPS stations within a radius of a latitude/longitude point, nearest first, from the CO-OPS metadata API station lists: stations with water level observations and tide prediction stations (harmonic reference stations and subordinate stations predicted by offsets from a reference station). Each station carries its ID, name, state, coordinates, distance, whether it reports water level observations, its prediction type and reference station, whether it is a Great Lakes station and its time zone where published.

get_ground_elevation_at_point

Claude
Returns the ground elevation at one latitude/longitude point from the USGS Elevation Point Query Service, which reads the best available USGS 3D Elevation Program (3DEP) digital elevation model at the point, with the units, the source resolution of the model, the acquisition date and the source raster ID. 3DEP elevations in the conterminous United States are referenced to NAVD88. A point outside 3DEP coverage is reported with no value.

get_observed_water_levels

Claude
Returns observed water levels for one CO-OPS station and date range from the CO-OPS data API, with the datum, units and time zone stated, the minimum and maximum in the range and the CO-OPS quality status of each value (preliminary or verified). Intervals and maximum ranges: six_minute up to 4 days, hourly_verified up to 31 days, high_low_verified up to 31 days. Verified hourly heights and high/low waters are published after CO-OPS verification, normally weeks after observation. A range with no data is reported as zero records with the CO-OPS message.

get_station_datums

Claude
Returns the datums CO-OPS publishes for one station from the CO-OPS metadata API: tidal datums (MHHW, MHW, MTL, MSL, MLW, MLLW and others) and NAVD88 where tied, as heights above the station datum, each also expressed relative to MLLW; the National Tidal Datum Epoch, acceptance date and analysis period; highest and lowest astronomical tide; and the highest and lowest observed water levels with dates. Great Lakes stations publish the Low Water Datum.

get_tide_predictions

Claude
Returns NOAA CO-OPS astronomical tide predictions for one station and date range from the CO-OPS data API, with the datum, units and time zone stated. Intervals and maximum ranges: high_low up to 31 days, hourly up to 7 days, six_minute up to 2 days; subordinate stations publish high and low predictions only. Predictions are computed from tidal constituents and contain no weather or river effects.

get_watershed_at_point

Claude
Returns the hydrologic units containing one latitude/longitude point from the USGS Watershed Boundary Dataset map service on The National Map: for each requested level (HUC2 region to HUC12 subwatershed; HUC8, HUC10 and HUC12 by default) the hydrologic unit code, name, area, states, unit type and, for HUC12, the downstream HUC12, with the dataset refresh date. A point outside the dataset is reported with no units.
