Overview

GovBot Weather, Water & Floods is a remote, read-only MCP server operated by Ideation Lab, Corp. It requires no account. It returns public weather, rainfall, river and flood records for a latitude and longitude, a small area, a state or a county, each result with its source and date. What it returns: - Current conditions: the National Weather Service seven-day forecast and active alerts for a point. - Past events: NWS flood warning polygons and flood Local Storm Reports for a window, archived IPAWS public alert messages, and the NOAA MRMS radar-gauge rainfall estimate for a past day. - Frequency: the NOAA Atlas 14 100-year 24-hour precipitation depth at a point. - Infrastructure: NOAA river gauge metadata, active USGS stream sites in an area and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers National Levee Database records. - FEMA flood studies: the streams of a county's FEMA flood study and modeled water-surface elevations at 10, 4, 2, 1 and 0.2 percent annual chance along a stream, in the vertical datum as recorded. Typical use: review a past flood event in a place, with the warnings issued, the storm reports and the rainfall that fell, then compare the rainfall with its 100-year depth and the FEMA study elevations of a nearby stream. How results are qualified: archived alerts, past warnings and storm reports are historical records, not current warnings; storm reports are preliminary; rainfall estimates, precipitation frequency and flood study elevations are estimates, statistics and model results, not forecasts, observed water levels or regulatory determinations. For current warnings and safety decisions, official NWS products and local emergency officials are authoritative. The service does not certify flood safety or give insurance, engineering or legal determinations. Not affiliated with NOAA, FEMA, USGS, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers or any government agency. The server writes nothing.

Tools

get_atlas14_rainfall_depth

Claude
Returns the NOAA Atlas 14 precipitation frequency depth, in inches, for one latitude and longitude at the fixed 24-hour duration and 100-year average recurrence interval, with source series, volume and version. Source: NOAA Atlas 14 Precipitation Frequency Data Server. A frequency statistic, not a forecast, flood map, parcel risk or confidence bound; other durations, intensities and metric units are not supported.

get_daily_rainfall_estimate

Claude
Returns the NOAA MRMS radar-gauge estimated rainfall total, in inches, for the grid cell containing one point in the contiguous United States on one past UTC day from 2015-01-01 through yesterday. Source: Iowa Environmental Mesonet reanalysis of NOAA MRMS. A cell estimate, not a gauge reading, forecast or frequency; zero can mean no rain or no coverage.

get_flood_study_stream_profile

Claude
Returns, per cross-section of one stream in one county study, water-surface elevations at 10, 4, 2, 1 and 0.2 percent annual chance in feet, with the vertical datum as recorded, study and source record. Source: FEMA DFIRM cross-section tables retained from FEMA Map Service Center packages; sealed snapshot, no live read. Modeled recurrence values, not observations, flood depths or forecasts; a frequency not held is listed, not zero. Up to 50 cross-sections per page.

get_nws_active_alerts_at_point

Claude
Returns National Weather Service alerts that are active at query time for one latitude, longitude point (1 to 3 per call). Source: NWS weather.gov active alert feed. Active alerts only; area-wide and other filters are not supported. Zero alerts means none matched in that response, not an absence of weather risk.

get_nws_point_forecast

Claude
Returns National Weather Service forecast periods (seven days) for one latitude and longitude, in US or SI units. Source: NWS weather.gov API gridpoint forecast. Periods are forecasts for one NWS grid point, not observations or active alerts; generatedAt, updateTime and period start and end times are returned.

get_river_gauge_metadata

Claude
Returns the identity and observed and forecast status availability of one NOAA National Water Prediction Service gauge, by its five-character NWSLI ID. Metadata and availability only, without measurement values, warnings or trends; no location or nearby-gauge search. Unavailable status is missingness, not zero; retrievedAt is fetch time.

list_county_flood_studies

Claude
Returns the FEMA flood study held for one five-digit county FIPS code (status, effective or issue date, source document) and a page of up to 50 of its streams with cross-section counts and station ranges. Source: FEMA DFIRM study cross-section tables retained from FEMA Map Service Center packages; sealed snapshot, no live read. Not a regulatory determination; the FEMA Flood Map Service Center is authoritative. A county not held says nothing about FEMA coverage; current effectiveness is unknown.

list_flood_warning_polygons

Claude
Lists up to 50 National Weather Service storm-based flood warning polygons issued in a UTC window of at most 3 days, summarized by label, phenomenon, centroid and vertex count, optionally within a bounding box. Source: Iowa Environmental Mesonet distribution of NWS warnings. Polygon outlines and valid periods are not returned; the source reads at most 2,000 polygons. A warning is an issued product, not observed flooding.

list_usgs_stream_sites

Claude
Returns up to 3 active USGS stream sites with instantaneous-value data inside a WGS84 bounding box of at most 0.2 degrees per side, with site number, station name and coordinates. Source: USGS NWIS Site Service. Site metadata only, without readings, current water conditions or flood stages; the returned sites are not a complete inventory of the box.

query_levee_inventory

Claude
Returns up to 25 leveed-area records for a state or a bounding box of at most 0.5 degrees, or levee-crossing records for a bounding box, without geometry. Source: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers National Levee Database public feature service. Inventory only: presence is not a safety rating or protection level, and absence does not mean no levee exists. No snapshot date is returned.

search_flood_storm_reports

Claude
Returns up to 40 flash-flood and flood Local Storm Report points for one USPS state in a window of at most 14 days, with type, place name, remark (cut at 200 characters) and publisher valid time. Source: National Weather Service Local Storm Reports via the Iowa Environmental Mesonet. Reports are preliminary and unverified; an empty window does not show that no flooding occurred; reports are not an event count or damage measure.

search_ipaws_alert_archive

Claude
Returns up to 3 archived public, actual IPAWS Common Alerting Protocol messages sent in a UTC window of at most 31 days, with CAP identifier, message type, event codes, headline, sent, effective and expiry times as published, and whether the message has a polygon or references. Source: FEMA OpenFEMA IPAWS Archived Alerts. flood_only filters the publisher page to event codes beginning FF, FL, FA or CF, which is not a complete hazard classification. Archived messages are historical records, not current warnings; counts describe one publisher page, not an archive total.
