La Grande Carte

by La Grande Carte

Overview

La Grande Carte gives ChatGPT read-only access to French public open data, curated and cross-referenced from about 40 official sources (INSEE, DGFiP, IGN, Géorisques, ADEME, ARS, SSMSI…). Ask about any of France's ~35,000 communes: population, income and poverty, housing and advertised rents, tap-water quality, air quality, crime, climate, travel times, amenities, municipal finances, mayor and election results. Ask about a specific address or cadastral parcel: natural and industrial risks (flood, clay shrink-swell, radon, seismic, polluted sites), urban-planning zoning, recent property sales, energy ratings, noise, fibre and mobile coverage, protected areas and heritage. Départements, overseas included, and régions come with their own statistics. Useful before moving, buying or renting, for due diligence on an address, to compare towns, and for local journalism or research on public statistics. Limitations: France only (metropolitan France and the overseas départements). Read-only: it never changes anything. Owner names are not part of the public data and are never returned. Figures come from the latest official release of each source, which can be one to three years old. All data is under the Etalab Open Licence 2.0. Connecting asks you to sign in to a La Grande Carte account (email and password, or Google).

Tools

compare_communes

ChatGPT
Compares 2 to 5 French communes side by side, for questions like "should we live in X or Y?" or "which of these towns is safer / cheaper / sunnier?". One row per indicator: population and its trend, density, median income, poverty, unemployment, property tax rate, advertised rents, vacant and second homes, social housing, burglaries, violence, vehicle theft, road accidents, GP access, amenities, tap-water quality, air quality, tiger mosquito, warming, hot days, sunshine, rainfall, altitude, travel time to Paris, the sea and the mountains. Needs INSEE codes from search_address (cityCode). One request per commune. For the full profile of one commune, use get_commune.

find_commune

ChatGPT
Which commune contains a lat/lon — identity only (INSEE code, name, département, région, area). For data about it, call get_commune with the code.

get_commune

ChatGPT
Data and statistics on a French commune (town/village), for questions about what a place is like, living or moving there, or comparing places. Returns identity (name, département, région, area) plus statistics: population history, median income and poverty, housing and advertised rents, social housing, condominiums, tap-water quality (compliance, nitrates, lead, pesticides), air quality, crime by category, road accidents, climate and warming, altitude and terrain, travel time to the nearest cities, amenities and services, GP access, jobs, municipal finances, mayor, election results and political leaning, pests (Asian hornet, tiger mosquito), mobile antennas, departmental rankings. Needs the INSEE code: get it from search_address (cityCode) — not the postcode.

get_departement

ChatGPT
A French département (e.g. 64 Pyrénées-Atlantiques, 2A Corse-du-Sud) with its statistics: population, income, poverty, unemployment, housing, crime, life expectancy, finances, elections and political leaning, climate, GP access, national rankings. Optionally the list of its communes.

get_parcel

ChatGPT
A cadastral parcel by its 14-character IDU reference (section, number, commune, area in m²). Use when the user gives a cadastral reference.

get_parcel_at_point

ChatGPT
The cadastral parcel (plot of land) at a lat/lon, typically from search_address: IDU reference, section, number, commune, area in m². Next step: get_parcel_enrichments with its idu for risks, planning, sales and more.

get_parcel_enrichments

ChatGPT
Full report on one plot of land or property: use it for questions about a specific address, house, land or purchase. Covers natural and industrial risks (flood, clay shrink-swell, radon, seismic, landslides, cavities, CatNat disasters, risk plans, polluted sites, SEVESO/ICPE, mining titles), urban planning (PLU zone, prescriptions, public-utility easements, airport servitudes), property sales nearby (DVF) and a price estimate, energy ratings (DPE), tap-water quality, noise maps, fibre and mobile coverage, electricity grid, protected nature and heritage, forests, farmland, schools, shops, health and transport nearby, travel times. Needs the parcel IDU from get_parcel_at_point. The heaviest tool — call it once per parcel.

get_region

ChatGPT
A French région with its statistics: population and demography, GDP, income, poverty, unemployment, housing, crime, life expectancy, finances, elections, climate, rankings. Optionally its départements. Codes from list_regions (e.g. 75 Nouvelle-Aquitaine).

list_communes

ChatGPT
Every commune of a département (INSEE code and name), several hundred rows. For one commune by name, use search_address instead.

list_departements

ChatGPT
Codes and names of the départements (overseas included), optionally of one région.

list_regions

ChatGPT
Codes and names of the 18 French régions.

search_address

ChatGPT
First step for any French place named in words: geocodes a commune name, an address, a street or a locality (Base Adresse Nationale). Each candidate has a label, lat/lon, postcode and cityCode — the INSEE code of the commune, to pass to get_commune. For an address, pass lat/lon to get_parcel_at_point.
