Long opinions paginate: default maxChars=100000 (max 250000); if truncated is true, call again with nextOffset until finished.
goodlaw_check
ChatGPTList cases that cite a case, with citation status. A reversal is first when one exists, then the newest citing case. status is "not adverse" when no treatment was recorded. limit is 10, 50, 100, or unlimited (default 10). order is recent (default) or negative.

retrieve_case
ChatGPTResolve a citation or case name to a LawDiver case (and did-you-mean candidates when ambiguous). Pass caseId from a prior did-you-mean to confirm. Returns metadata and urls only — call get_opinion_text with caseId for the full opinion body.
retrieve_patent
ChatGPTU.S. patent by number or cite: USPTO record and claims, PTAB trials, and every LawDiver opinion citing it by forum (district court, PTAB, Federal Circuit) with a dated timeline and unpatentability alerts.
retrieve_statute
ChatGPTReturns full statute or regulation text when LawDiver holds the section (e.g. 42 U.S.C. § 1983), or by authorityKey from check_citation. State court rules and constitutions often return unavailable with an official URL and no body. Do not retry the same cite expecting the text.
search_cases
ChatGPTSearch LawDiver caselaw (federal and state). Returns case name, citation, court, date, snippet, and good-law flags. Always set jurisdiction. Use searchType auto unless the query is only a citation, or boolean for a strict connector query. Examples: negligence AND causation; rescission OR cancellation; immunity BUT NOT prisoner (NOT, BUT NOT, and % are one exclusion); "clearly established"; employer /s negligent (25 words); summary w/3 judgment; unconscionab!; holdings:"clearly established". keyword is the old name for boolean. Send citations to retrieve_case or check_citation. An empty list is not proof the authority does not exist.
