LawLens Search

by LawLens

Overview

Search indexed Indian judgments and legislation for legal research. Find sources using keywords, phrases, word proximity, court and date filters, party and judge names, neutral citations, acts and provisions. Discover exact stored filter values and retrieve indexed text for selected results. Results include document IDs, available metadata and source links. Designed for lawyers, law students and researchers. LawLens tools retrieve indexed sources; they do not generate AI legal answers, provide legal advice, or verify whether an authority remains good law. Retrieved text may be partial and is not guaranteed to be the complete original document. Consult the linked source and independently assess it before relying on the material.

Tools

fetch

ChatGPT
Use this to retrieve indexed text and metadata for an ID returned by search or search_legal_documents. Returns its citation URL. Content is indexed excerpts and may be incomplete; never describe it as the full judgment or as verified law. Consult the source URL for the original.

find_in_document

ChatGPT
Use this to find where a judgment or legislation document discusses specific words or phrases. Give an id returned by a LawLens search tool and up to 10 terms. Each term is a literal word or phrase, matched case-insensitively; a trailing matches word endings (acquitt matches acquitted and acquittal). match=any returns passages containing any term; match=all returns only passages containing every term. Returns verbatim excerpts with their section, per-term counts across the document, and the citation URL. Prefer this to fetch for specific points, since fetch returns only the first part of long documents. Searches indexed text only, which may be incomplete; no match does not prove the document never addresses the point.

get_search_options

ChatGPT
Use this to discover exact court, case type, judge, author, act token, or provision token values before a filtered judgment search. Options can be narrowed with existing filters and a literal prefix. For example, request courts with prefix Delhi, then judges filtered to a returned court. For a provision, obtain its ACT token, then request provisions filtered by that act token. Counts refer to indexed records, not unique judgments.

search_by_neutral_citation

ChatGPT
Look up Indian judgments using an exact stored neutral citation. Returns document IDs, titles, citation URLs, metadata, indexed excerpts and pagination. Use fetch with a returned ID to retrieve more indexed text. Use next_offset to paginate. An empty result does not prove the citation is invalid; this tool does not verify an authority or generate an AI answer.
