Overview

LicenseClear is a contractor license lookup tool: its one purpose is to help you verify a contractor before hiring. It looks up contractors in official Florida (DBPR) and California (CSLB) public licensing records. Give it a license number or business name to see license status, expiry date, trade, workers' comp and bond where the state publishes them, and Florida discipline cases. Or ask it to list active licensed contractors for a trade in a Florida or California county, filtered to licenses with no Florida discipline on record or California workers' comp on file. Intended for homeowners and anyone vetting a contractor before hiring. Limitations: only Florida and California are covered; California discipline is not in the state's downloadable data, so a link to the official CSLB record is given instead; results are public records as of the stated data date, not a recommendation or quality ranking, and should be verified with the state licensing board before hiring.

Tools

find_licensed_contractors

ChatGPT
Lists active, licensed contractors for a trade in one Florida or California county from official state records, sorted by longest time licensed (not by quality). Can filter to licenses with no discipline found in Florida records, or with workers' comp on file in California. Florida files do not include workers' comp, and California files do not include discipline; unsupported filters are reported, not applied. Florida electrical contractors are not covered (a separate state board); California electrical is. Up to 20 results. Only Florida and California are covered.

get_contractor_record

ChatGPT
Looks up one contractor in official state licensing records (Florida DBPR, California CSLB) by license number or business name. Returns license status, expiry, trade, workers' comp and bond where the state publishes them, and Florida discipline cases, each with its source and as-of date. California discipline is not in the state's downloadable data, so a link to the official CSLB record is returned instead. Only Florida and California are covered. A license number is the most reliable way to match; if a name fits several licenses, the user is asked which one.
