Overview

Lowdown keeps a daily record of what MCP servers declare and what is actually observed. Ask Claude about an MCP server before you install or connect it, and Lowdown returns the recorded facts with dates and sources. What you get for a server: - Status: whether it answered initialize and tools/list on Lowdown's latest daily check, required authentication, or did not respond, and for how many consecutive days. - Tool definitions: when its tools changed, whether the server version changed with them, and whether a change added a URL or invisible characters to a tool description. - Registry: what the official MCP Registry declares (version, hosts, packages) and what changed there in the last 30 days. - Packages: whether the npm or PyPI packages it declares are deprecated, yanked, archived, or gone. Lowdown checks about 10,000 Registry servers every day without credentials and never calls their tools. It does not score, grade, or rank servers. It states what was observed and when, and says plainly when there is no record. Every answer ends with a source block (dataset, license, retrieval time) so the facts can be cited. The full dataset is public under CC BY 4.0. The connector has one read-only tool, get_lowdown. It takes a server name and an optional menu, such as install-check before installing or change-watch for recent changes. No account or sign-in is needed.
