Overview

Nobrainrot shows you how much of your life your phone is taking, then helps you take it back. The Brain Rot Index is a 2-minute self-check: two sliders (daily phone hours and age) and 10 questions adapted from the Smartphone Addiction Scale – Short Version (Kwon et al., 2013). You get a score out of 100, one of eight habit types (like Night Scroller or Phantom Checker), and an estimate of the years you would spend on a screen before 80 at your current rate. You can share your result with a link. Then do something about it: • Focus Room: name the task, pick 25, 45 or 90 minutes, put the phone away. A live timer runs in the chat and you get a short receipt at the end. • 7-day detox plan: one offline action a day, built around your habit type or what you want to fix (nights, work, social media). • Screen time receipt: share your daily screen time and see what it adds up to per week, per year and per decade. • Shift: a physical NFC puck you tap with your iPhone to lock distracting apps. Works with the Shift app for iOS. No account, no email. We store your score, type, hours and age so your share link works, never your name. A self-check, not a medical diagnosis.

Tools

brain_rot_index_start

ChatGPT
Runs the Brain Rot Index, a 2-minute, 10-question self-check of the user's own smartphone overuse, based on the Smartphone Addiction Scale – Short Version (Kwon et al., 2013). Use when the user asks whether they are addicted to their phone, wants to test or measure their phone habits, or asks how bad their brain rot or doomscrolling is. Gives a score, a habit type and a shareable result. When the user finishes, one anonymous result (score, type, hours per day, age; no name or account) is saved so it can be opened from a public share link. For the user's own habits, not a child's. Not a medical diagnosis.

brain_rot_index_submit

ChatGPT
Scores a completed Brain Rot Index. Called by the Nobrainrot widget after the user answers all 10 questions. Stores one anonymous result (answers-derived score, hours per day, age) so the user can share it.

build_detox_plan

ChatGPT
Builds a 7-day plan to use the phone less: one offline action per day, using modes from the Shift app. Use when the user wants to break a phone addiction, stop doomscrolling, quit or reduce social media, or stop scrolling at night. Works without a Brain Rot Index result; with one, pass the type to tailor the plan.

screen_time_check

ChatGPT
Turns the user's own daily screen time into what it adds up to: hours per week, per year and over a decade. Use when the user shares their screen-time number or a Screen Time screenshot and asks if it is too much. Read the daily average from the screenshot yourself and pass it in minutes. Does not compare to population averages.

show_shift

ChatGPT
Shows Shift by Nobrainrot: a physical NFC puck you tap with your iPhone to lock chosen apps until you tap again. Use when the user asks for a physical device or tool that blocks apps or makes the phone harder to use, or asks about Shift or Nobrainrot. Purchase happens on nobrainrot.com.

start_focus_session

ChatGPT
Opens a live focus timer for the user's own work or study session: they name the task, pick a length and put the phone away, and the widget counts down and shows a short receipt at the end. Use when the user wants to focus, study, do deep work, start a pomodoro or set a focus timer. Pass minutes and task only if the user said them.
