Overview

Turn an idea and a few dimensions into an editable 3D model with Partwright. Create projects, build CadQuery models, refine a design through saved versions, and inspect the results in an interactive 3D viewer. Preview models in ChatGPT, then open them on the Partwright website to download STL, STEP and other available exports or source files. Downloads are completed on the Partwright website. Connect a Partwright account and choose the workspace your AI can access. Editing permission is needed to create projects, build models, obtain print estimates, or open checkout. You can revoke access from the Partwright Connections page. With editing access, opening a preview may automatically obtain a print estimate from Slant 3D using printable geometry, material and colour selections, quantities, and an internal account identifier. Print estimates exclude shipping. To order a physical print, use the viewer’s checkout action, then review delivery details and pay on Partwright’s external checkout page using Stripe. The design workspace is available worldwide. Physical print availability, supported delivery destinations, shipping and final pricing depend on the quote. Opening a preview does not place an order or charge you. For makers and anyone exploring dimensioned 3D designs. Review dimensions, fit, materials and intended use before printing. A preview or successful CAD build does not certify strength, safety or printability.

Tools

build_model

ChatGPT
Partwright is a registry for finished models: it rebuilds and validates submitted CadQuery source, then saves each successful build as an immutable version with a preview for the user, downloads, and print quotes. When a design needs iteration, do it in your own code sandbox with CadQuery 2.8.0, however you see fit. A simple shape can be written and submitted in one go. Submit only finished, self-contained source with build_model, never experiments: each successful build becomes a saved version. The user can set how many of each part to print at checkout, so extra copies for printing do not need to be added to the model. For designs intended for printing, use Slant’s published standard build volume of 220 x 220 x 220 mm as the planning limit for each individual part in a suitable printing orientation, regardless of selected material/color. Consider whether rotating the part allows it to fit; an oversized bounding box in the current model orientation alone does not prove that the part is too large. Do not assume either automatic reorientation by the supplier or a fixed print orientation. The assembled model may be larger. Do not silently scale down user-requested dimensions. If a part cannot fit this envelope in a suitable printing orientation, propose splitting it into separately printable parts with suitable joints, or ask whether resizing is acceptable. A part fitting this envelope is not guaranteed printable; the supplier quote remains authoritative.Every printable part must have an explicit available filamentId from list_print_filaments before building. If the user has not specified a material or colour, choose a fitting available option yourself without routinely asking. Honor explicit requests; if unavailable, ask the user rather than substitute. cq.Color does not select a print filament and cannot replace filamentId. Reference geometry always uses the fixed translucent reference style; supplied colours and filament metadata cannot customize it. Queue a new model or immutable version from Python CadQuery source. Numeric inputs are available only through the Python parameters dictionary, not injected as standalone variables. For parameters={"width":40}, bind width = parameters["width"] or width = parameters.get("width", 40) before using width. Keep supplied dimensions parameterized rather than hardcoding them. Assign the final solid Workplane, Shape, or named Assembly to result; a variable named model alone is not an output. Mark existing objects, fitting guides, or other preview-only geometry with assembly metadata={"role":"reference"}. Reference parts stay visible in the preview but are excluded from STEP/STL downloads, print estimates, and checkout. All other parts default to role="printable". A reference subassembly makes all its children reference-only. Keep at least one printable part; use distinct partIds for reference and printable geometry. Reference parts do not need filament selections. Hiding a part in the viewer does not change whether it prints. Each printable part is printed individually in one material/color. Do not assume multicolor printing or automatic bonding between touching parts. Design the intended relationship between parts: loose, resting, removable, or attached. Where attachment is needed, include a suitable attachment method and explain any required glue or hardware. Account for appropriate clearances wherever parts fit together. Reuse the same id UUID only when resending an unchanged request after a transport failure; it returns the original job, including a failed job, without executing again. Use a new UUID for corrected source, changed inputs, or another build attempt. After a failed build, retain its modelId and the unchanged expectedParentId. For a new model omit modelId and use null expectedParentId; for edits supply the latest version ID. For colors, call list_print_filaments and set metadata={"partId":"lid","filamentId":"<catalog ID>"} on each new assembly part. For overrides validated before queueing, pass filamentSelections. Use definition:lid only when metadata explicitly sets…

create_project

ChatGPT
Create a project in the approved workspace.

get_build

ChatGPT
Read build state and diagnostics. Poll once per second while queued/running so the preview can appear promptly. On success call view_model with versionId.

list_models

ChatGPT
List models in a project. Use read_model for source and latest version.

list_print_filaments

ChatGPT
List currently available Slant material/colour options and exact IDs for CAD metadata (availability cached up to 60 seconds). Unavailable selections fail builds; never substitute a material or colour without user agreement. Preview colours are approximate.

list_projects

ChatGPT
List projects in the approved workspace.

read_model

ChatGPT
Read model source, numeric parameters, and recent immutable version history. Omit versionId for the latest version.

view_model

ChatGPT
Show an interactive 3D viewer and user-initiated print checkout for an immutable model version. Use this when the user wants to inspect or purchase the model. With editing access, opening a model preview may automatically calculate or refresh a print estimate. Partwright works with Slant 3D to provide estimates and manufacturing. For preview estimates, Partwright may send printable model files, material and colour selections, quantities, and an internal Partwright account identifier to Slant 3D. Preview estimates do not send your email or delivery address, place a manufacturing order, or initiate payment. Delivery details are shared later when you request a delivery quote during checkout.

viewer_artifact

ChatGPT
Load the GLB for the inline model viewer. Binary data is returned only in UI metadata.

viewer_checkout

ChatGPT
Open a private Partwright order-summary page only after the user clicks checkout in the viewer. Reuse id for retries. The page collects a delivery address and obtains Slant quotes before payment.

viewer_download

ChatGPT
Prepare separate STL files for saved printable part definitions after the user clicks Download. Reference geometry is excluded. File data is returned only in UI metadata.

viewer_orders

ChatGPT
Read the current buyer’s orders for this viewer version. Delivery details are not returned.

viewer_quote

ChatGPT
Estimate printing for saved printable parts, excluding reference parts and shipping. The viewer may call this automatically on opening or refresh when editing access is allowed. May send printable model files, material and colour selections, quantities, and an internal Partwright account identifier to Slant 3D. Does not send email or delivery details, or create checkout, shipping drafts, manufacturing orders, or payments.
