Overview

Search patents, find prior art, or check whether an idea already exists. Patenta is a semantic patent search: it matches published patents by meaning rather than by keyword. Describe an invention or technical idea in plain language and get the closest matching patents. For patent work, use it for a prior-art or novelty search before filing an application, or to see whether a product idea or technical solution has already been patented. In research and development, use it to see what already exists before a project starts, to find earlier solutions to a technical problem, and to see which companies are active in a field. It suits inventors, founders, engineers, scientists, R&D teams and patent professionals who want a first look at the patents around an idea. Requires a Patenta subscription (monthly, cancel anytime from your account settings). Sign up at patenta.ai.

search_patents

ChatGPT
Use this when the user wants to find patents related to an invention or technical idea: checking whether an idea already exists, looking for prior art, or finding patents similar to a described technology. Runs a semantic (meaning-based) search over published patents and returns the closest matches with title, abstract, assignee, dates, CPC classes and a link. Every search covers all the years the account can search, normally back to 1976, and says so in searched; for a question about a period, pick the patents from the results by their dates. Each call runs one search on the user's Patenta account and uses that account's search credits, so do not repeat a call with the same description. Do not use it to look up a patent by its number, to check legal status, ownership or fees, for trademark or copyright questions, or as legal advice on patentability.
