add_images_to_album
ChatGPTAdd pictures to one of the user's albums. Pictures already in the album stay in it. Returns the album, added and missing (ids that were not found; nothing changed for them). Get picture ids from list_images or search_images, and album ids from list_albums or create_album.
create_album
ChatGPTCreate an album in Auto, and optionally add pictures to it. If the user already has an album with the same title (ignoring case and spacing), that album is used (created: false) and the pictures are added to it, so there is no need to check first. Returns the album, added (ids now in the album) and missing (ids that were not found, which were not added).
delete_album
ChatGPTDelete one of the user's albums. Only the album goes: the pictures in it stay in the user's library and in any other album. Confirm with the user first unless they asked for this exact album to be deleted.
display_image
ChatGPTDisplay a single picture to the user as an embedded MCP App. Prefer this over describing a picture in text or calling get_image / get_image_bytes whenever the user asked to see one. Returns an error if the picture is missing or not owned by the authenticated user.
display_images_carousel
ChatGPTDisplay one or more pictures to the user as an embedded MCP App in a horizontally-scrolling carousel. Good for a small handful the user is meant to swipe through; for larger sets prefer display_images_grid. Pipe ids from list_images / search_images straight into this tool rather than narrating them in text.
display_images_grid
ChatGPTDisplay one or more pictures to the user as an embedded MCP App in a responsive grid. Prefer this (or display_images_carousel) over listing picture metadata in text whenever the user asked to see pictures — pipe ids from list_images / search_images straight into this tool.
display_photo
ChatGPTDisplay a single photo to the user as an embedded MCP App. Renders the image with its title and links to open or download the original. Prefer this over describing a photo in text or calling get_photo / get_photo_image whenever the user asked to see a photo. Returns an error if the photo is missing or not owned by the authenticated user.
display_photos_carousel
ChatGPTDisplay one or more photos to the user as an embedded MCP App in a horizontally-scrolling carousel. Each card shows the photo title and links to open or download the original. Good for a small handful of photos the user is meant to swipe through; for larger sets prefer display_photos_grid. Pipe ids from list_photos / search_photos straight into this tool rather than narrating them in text.
display_photos_grid
ChatGPTDisplay one or more photos to the user as an embedded MCP App in a responsive grid. Each card shows the photo title and links to open or download the original. Prefer this (or display_photos_carousel) over listing photo metadata in text whenever the user asked to see photos — pipe ids from list_photos / search_photos straight into this tool.
get_album
ChatGPTGet one of the user's albums by id: its title, the number of pictures in it (imageCount) and the id of its cover picture (coverImageId). To see its pictures, call list_images or search_images with its albumId.
get_image
ChatGPTFetch a single picture's metadata by id, including the description and details written about it. Returns an error if the picture does not exist or is not owned by the authenticated user. To show the picture to the user, call display_image instead — this tool is for when the model needs the metadata itself.
get_image_bytes
ChatGPTFetch a single picture as inline base64-encoded content for the model to see. The entire response is buffered, so call sparingly — pictures larger than 10 MB are rejected. To show the picture to the user, call display_image instead; only use this tool when the model itself needs to inspect the pixels.
get_info
ChatGPTGet which app the user's pictures come from (app), how many pictures they have (totalImages), whether photo syncing is on (syncEnabled), and setup steps (help). app is auto_photos for the synced camera roll from the Auto Photos app, or auto for the pictures the user took in the Auto app, which have no albums. help tells the user how to get Auto Photos, and installUrl is its link (a TestFlight beta or the App Store, named in installChannel). Call this first when the user asks what Auto can do, and when list_images or search_images return no pictures. When totalImages is 0 or syncEnabled is false, show the user the help steps.
get_photo
ChatGPTFetch a single photo's metadata by id, including its memory-derived descriptions. Returns an error if the photo does not exist or is not owned by the authenticated user. To show the photo to the user, call display_photo instead — this tool is for when the model needs the metadata itself.
get_photo_image
ChatGPTFetch a single photo's image bytes as inline base64-encoded content for the model to see. The entire response is buffered, so call sparingly — photos larger than 10 MB are rejected. To show the photo to the user, call display_photo instead; only use this tool when the model itself needs to inspect the image pixels.
list_albums
ChatGPTList the user's albums in Auto, most recently changed first, each with the number of pictures in it (imageCount) and the id of its cover picture (coverImageId). To see an album's pictures, call list_images or search_images with its albumId.
list_images
ChatGPTList the authenticated user's pictures in reverse chronological capture order, optionally filtered by album (albumId), date range, screenshots (screenshot) and/or a (lat, lng, radius) bounding circle. source in the result says where they came from: auto_photos (the synced camera roll) or auto (pictures taken in the Auto app, which have no albums or screenshots). The radius here only filters the newest page, so for a location question prefer search_images, which searches the whole library geographically. Returns metadata only. To show the pictures to the user, pass the resulting ids to display_images_grid (multiple) or display_image (one) rather than describing them in text.
list_photos
ChatGPTList the authenticated user's photos in reverse chronological capture order, optionally filtered by date range and/or a (lat, lng, radius) bounding circle. Returns metadata only. To show the photos to the user, pass the resulting ids to display_photos_grid (multiple photos) or display_photo (one photo) rather than describing them in text.
remove_images_from_album
ChatGPTRemove pictures from one of the user's albums. The pictures are not deleted; they only leave the album. Returns the album, removed and missing (ids that were not found).
rename_album
ChatGPTGive one of the user's albums a new title. Fails if another of their albums already has that title (ignoring case and spacing). Returns the album.
search_images
ChatGPTSearch the authenticated user's pictures. source in the result says where they came from: auto_photos (the synced camera roll) or auto (pictures taken in the Auto app, matched by their descriptions only, with no albums or screenshots). With query, matches the text semantically against both the pictures themselves and the descriptions and OCR text written about them, then fuses the two. Without query, a (lat, lng, radius) circle returns what was captured there. This is the complete geographic search; list_images only filters its newest page by radius. albumId narrows the search to one album, and screenshot keeps or drops screenshots. All filters compose. Returns metadata only. To show the pictures to the user, pass the resulting ids to display_images_grid (multiple) or display_image (one) rather than describing them in text.
search_photos
ChatGPTSearch the authenticated user's photos. With query, runs semantic vector search over photo descriptions. Without query, returns photos matching the structured filters. All filters compose. Returns metadata only. To show the photos to the user, pass the resulting ids to display_photos_grid (multiple photos) or display_photo (one photo) rather than describing them in text.
send_feature_request
ChatGPTTell the Auto team about something the user wanted to do with their pictures that Auto cannot do yet. Call this when no other tool can complete the user's task, after you have tried the tools that might fit. Send one request per missing capability, and tell the user you sent it. Do not use it for errors a retry or different parameters would fix. Do not include personal details the user did not ask you to share.
set_album_cover
ChatGPTPick the picture an album shows as its cover. The picture must already be in the album. Leave out imageId to go back to the default, the newest picture in the album. If the cover picture later leaves the album, the album goes back to the default. Returns the album, with the cover in coverImageId.
