Overview
Search and read the Shamela Arabic and Islamic book corpus from ChatGPT. The server resolves named books, authors, editions and categories, runs layered retrieval, and returns bounded original-source evidence with direct Shamela citations. Follow-up tools can search within explicit source or date constraints and open one or several source pages for context. Shamela is public and read-only, requires no user account, and does not call an AI model. Bounded retrieval does not prove completeness, consensus, attribution, hadith authenticity or scholarly correctness.
Tools
Search books: Quran, tafsir, hadith, fiqh, usul, aqida, sira, history, Arabic. Call it first, before answering from memory, for any question these books could answer or document, even a short or general one or a bare term, and even when the user does not mention Islam, Shamela or sources; if unsure, search instead of guessing. Classify the question and send difficulty with every call. One call returns ranked books in two layers (main, then secondary), opens the best pages of the leading books with their continuation in evidence.sources, and gives each unopened book a cited preview. Read evidence.sources and relevant footnotes before accepting a match, and follow the result's notice when writing the answer: end every source-based paragraph or item with the citation.markdown link of each supporting page, as in Title ([ص ١٠](url)); a book name without its link is not a citation.
shamela_find_scoped
ChatGPTFollow-up search after shamela_find, never the first call, even when an author is named: searches within explicit books, authors, categories, pages or dates. The server resolves names and searches all matching editions. Returns ranked pages with cited previews, opened evidence in evidence.sources, and a next_cursor; repeat identical inputs, including difficulty, to continue.
shamela_open
ChatGPTOpen one source page: text, citation.markdown, neighboring page IDs, and a next_cursor when the text exceeds max_chars. Use it to continue a cut passage or read a neighbor; cite the page as its citation.markdown link.
shamela_open_many
ChatGPTOpen up to eight source pages, with up to three neighboring pages each, within one text budget. Use context=0 normally and 1 when a passage is cut or attribution is unclear. Do not reopen pages already in evidence.sources. Cite each page as its citation.markdown link.
