Overview

RooferMatch helps homeowners make sense of a roof problem before they talk to anyone selling a roof. Describe what you're seeing (a leak, missing shingles, storm or hail damage, a sagging spot, an aging roof) and the assistant walks you through a short triage: a few questions, one at a time, with a Not sure option on each. You get how urgent it looks, the likely cause, what to do right now and which kind of roofing service fits. Safety red flags, like sagging or water near electrics, come first. Ask what a repair or replacement might cost and you get a local range with its assumptions and the date the prices are from. Guides and checklists cover storm walkarounds, repair versus replacement, how insurance claims usually work, and what to ask a roofer. If you want quotes, RooferMatch can show verified member roofers who serve your ZIP code and do the work you need. They're ordered by fit (claims experience when you have a claim, then how reliably they respond), never by payment. You tick the roofers you want, enter your contact details in the card and confirm with a code sent to your email. Only the roofers you picked receive your details, and your receipt email lets you withdraw or delete them. Limitations: the triage is based on your answers, not an inspection. Costs are estimates, not quotes. Insurance information explains the usual process and isn't advice on your claim. The roofer network covers member roofers only, so some areas have few or none. RooferMatch doesn't take payments in the conversation.

Tools

check_quote_request

ChatGPT
Use this when a homeowner asks what happened with a RooferMatch quote request they made earlier and gives its reference (it looks like RM-7Q4K2X9P3M and is in their receipt email). Returns which roofers received it and what each has reported since. It never shows contact details and can't change the request: for that, point them to the link in their receipt email. Do not use it to look up a request by name or email.

confirm_quote_request

ChatGPT
Called by the RooferMatch shortlist card with the code the homeowner received by email. Sends the request to the roofers they chose and emails them a receipt.

estimate_roof_cost

ChatGPT
Use this when a homeowner asks what a roof replacement or repair might cost where they live. Returns a low-to-high range with its assumptions and the date the prices are from. Always give the range, the price date and the main assumptions, and present it as an estimate, never a quote or a fair-price verdict on a bid. For a replacement, give roof_area_sq_ft or footprint_sq_ft (the ground area under the roof, not living area). Do not use it to compare specific roofers.

find_roofers

ChatGPT
Use this to check which verified RooferMatch member roofers serve a ZIP and do a kind of work, ordered by fit (never by payment), for example when the homeowner asks who's available. It shows no card. When the homeowner is ready to choose roofers and send a request, call show_roofer_shortlist once instead. Coverage is limited to member roofers; if none fit, say so plainly. Don't use it to rank or review roofers in general.

get_roofing_guide

ChatGPT
Use this when you have a guide slug from search_roofing_guides or score_roof_assessment and need its full text: an article, or a checklist with why each item matters, plus its sources. Quote or summarize it and link its URL. Do not use it to search; use search_roofing_guides.

request_quotes

ChatGPT
Called by the RooferMatch shortlist card after the homeowner ticks roofers, enters contact details and agrees to share them. Saves the request and emails the homeowner a confirmation code. Nothing is sent to roofers yet.

score_roof_assessment

ChatGPT
Use this after asking the start_roof_assessment questions. Returns how urgent the problem looks, the likely cause, what to do now, which kind of roofer service fits, and guides to read. Safety red flags override everything else. It's a triage, not an inspection: say so. Do not use it without the homeowner's own answers from this conversation; if you're reusing details remembered from earlier, ask the homeowner to confirm them first.

search_roofing_guides

ChatGPT
Use this when a homeowner asks how something about their roof works: leaks, storm and hail damage, materials, repair versus replacement, insurance claims, maintenance, or hiring a roofer. Returns matching RooferMatch guides and checklists with a link to each, and the guide's own short answer when one of its common questions matches. Then call get_roofing_guide for the full text. Do not use it for cost numbers (use estimate_roof_cost) or to find roofers (use find_roofers).

show_roofer_shortlist

ChatGPT
Use this at most once per conversation, when the homeowner is ready to choose roofers and send a request: usually after score_roof_assessment, or when they ask to contact roofers. It shows a card where they pick member roofers and confirm by email. Don't call it while you're still asking assessment questions; use find_roofers to talk about who's available. Don't ask for contact details in chat; the card collects them.

start_roof_assessment

ChatGPT
Use this when a homeowner describes a roof problem (a leak, missing shingles, storm or hail damage, sagging, granules in gutters, age worries) and wants to know how serious it is. Returns the triage questions to ask one at a time with their options. Pass answers_so_far to get follow-up questions that depend on earlier answers. Then call score_roof_assessment. Do not use it for general questions about roofing.
