Overview

Create and update spreadsheets with plain-language requests—no formulas to remember and no copying between tabs. Write or append data, build formulas, sort and filter rows, clean duplicates and whitespace, split text into columns, and find and replace values. Format cells with borders, merged cells, validation rules, and conditional formatting. Freeze and resize columns, manage named and protected ranges, and add charts linked to your data. Create new spreadsheets and sheets, duplicate or merge sheets, and move data between tabs. The plugin works with spreadsheets available to your connected account.

Tools

add_named_range

ChatGPT
Creates a named range in a spreadsheet.

add_protected_range

ChatGPT
Adds a protected range to prevent editing.

add_sheet

ChatGPT
Adds a new sheet to a spreadsheet with optional properties.

add_table

ChatGPT
Converts a header + data range into a native Google Sheets table (named, typed columns, header styling, filter chips) and optionally gives columns a type — DROPDOWN columns with options render as native dropdown chips. Use it for a new list-style table with dropdown columns; do not use it for matrices, calculation grids, report layouts or chart-source ranges. The range must start with a non-empty header row and contain at least one data row. Returns the table id and range.

append_cells

ChatGPT
Appends rows of cells to the end of a sheet.

apply_conditional_format_to_sheet_range

ChatGPT
Creates a new conditional format rule for a specific sheet range. IMPORTANT: Sheet conditional formatting does NOT support borders, alignment, font size, text wrap, padding, or number formats. This tool can only set fontColor, backgroundColor, bold, italic, underline, strikethrough. For borders/alignment/size, apply STATIC formatting via update_borders / update_cells on the specific cells that already meet the condition; do not pretend a CF rule will paint them.

apply_formula_to_sheet_range

ChatGPT
Wraps the existing content of every NON-EMPTY cell in an A1 range (on the sheet chosen by sheetId) in one function, e.g. turning 12 into =ROUND(12;2) or =A12 into =ROUND(A12;2) via the {__current__} argument. Empty cells are skipped, so this cannot fill an empty column — write formulas into empty cells with the update-cells tool (formulaValue) instead.

auto_resize_dimensions

ChatGPT
Auto-resizes rows or columns to fit their content.

clear_basic_filter

ChatGPT
Removes the basic filter from a sheet.

copy_paste

ChatGPT
Copies data from source range and pastes to destination.

create_sheet

ChatGPT
Creates a new sheet within an existing spreadsheet.

create_spreadsheet

ChatGPT
Creates a new spreadsheet.

cut_paste

ChatGPT
Cuts data from source range and pastes to destination.

delete_comment

ChatGPT
Permanently deletes a comment thread, or a single reply when postId is given. Only the author's own comments can be deleted (Google rejects others). Prefer resolving (reply_comment with RESOLVE) over deleting; delete only comments you created in this conversation or that the user explicitly asked to remove.

delete_dimension

ChatGPT
Deletes rows or columns from a sheet.

delete_duplicates

ChatGPT
Removes rows with duplicate values in specified columns.

delete_embedded_object

ChatGPT
Deletes an embedded object like a chart or image.

delete_named_range

ChatGPT
Deletes a named range from a spreadsheet.

delete_protected_range

ChatGPT
Removes a protected range from a sheet.

delete_range

ChatGPT
Deletes a range of cells, shifting remaining cells.

delete_sheet

ChatGPT
Deletes a sheet from a spreadsheet.

duplicate_sheet

ChatGPT
Duplicates an existing sheet within a spreadsheet.

edit_sheet_conditional_format

ChatGPT
Edits an existing conditional format rule for specific sheet.

find_replace

ChatGPT
Finds and replaces text or formulas in a sheet or range. This EDITS the spreadsheet — to search without modifying anything, use search_sheet_values instead.

get_sheet_conditional_formats

ChatGPT
Retrieves a list of conditional formats for specific sheet.

get_spreadsheet_info

ChatGPT
Gets a spreadsheet's structure: locale and formula separators, and for every sheet its exact title, sheetId, grid size, frozen rows/columns, basic filter, conditional-format count, chart ids with anchor cell and size, native tables (id, name, range, typed columns) and merged ranges, plus named ranges. Read this before writing so ranges use real titles and sheetIds.

insert_comment

ChatGPT
Adds a comment thread anchored to one cell of a sheet, optionally assigned to a collaborator. Cell values and formats are not changed. Use it to review data, flag a suspicious value or formula, ask a question or leave feedback on a specific cell; anchor each comment to the exact cell it is about. Returns the new commentId.

insert_dimension

ChatGPT
Inserts new rows or columns into a sheet.

insert_dynamic_chart

ChatGPT
Insert dynamic chart into the sheet from the data found in the given range.

insert_range

ChatGPT
Inserts empty cells in a range, shifting other cells.

list_comments

ChatGPT
Lists the comment threads of a spreadsheet: commentId, status, the anchored cell ('Sheet'!A1), quoted cell text, author, content, assignee and replies with postId. Read it before replying to, resolving or deleting a comment, and after inserting one to confirm it landed.

merge_cells

ChatGPT
Merges cells in a specified range.

merge_sheets

ChatGPT
Merges sheets inside single spreadsheet

modify_sheet_values

ChatGPT
Modifies values in a specific sheet range - can write, update, or clear values.

move_dimension

ChatGPT
Moves rows or columns to a different position.

randomize_range

ChatGPT
Randomizes the order of rows in a range.

read_cell_formats

ChatGPT
Reads cell formatting metadata (borders, fonts, fills, alignment, number formats, wrap, padding) and, with fields ['dataValidation'], each cell's dropdown/validation rule, for a range. USE THIS BEFORE making visual repairs (borders, alignment, fonts, fills) and before writing into cells that may carry dropdown validation — read_sheet_values returns ONLY values, never formatting or validation. Returns a compact JSON map keyed by A1 cell reference; cells with no relevant formatting or validation are omitted.

read_sheet_values

ChatGPT
Reads values from a specific sheet range.

remove_sheet_conditional_formats

ChatGPT
Removes an existing conditional format rules for specific sheet.

repeat_cell

ChatGPT
Repeats a single cell format and/or value across a range.

replace_formulas_with_values

ChatGPT
Replaces formulas in cells with their calculated values, freezes formula calculations.

reply_comment

ChatGPT
Replies to a comment thread, resolves it (action RESOLVE, optionally with a closing reply) or reopens it (REOPEN). Read the thread with list_comments first so the reply answers what was actually asked; resolve only threads whose request is done or that the user told you to close.

search_sheet_values

ChatGPT
Searches cell values across a spreadsheet (or a range) and returns the matching cell addresses with excerpts. Read-only — never modifies the spreadsheet. Use this to locate data; never use find_replace for searching.

search_spreadsheets

ChatGPT
Searches for spreadsheets by name using Drive API (mimeType filter).

set_basic_filter

ChatGPT
Sets a basic filter on a sheet to enable data filtering.

set_data_validation

ChatGPT
Sets data validation rules for cells in a range.

sort_range

ChatGPT
Sorts data in a range based on specified columns.

text_to_columns

ChatGPT
Splits text in cells into multiple columns based on a delimiter.

trim_whitespace

ChatGPT
Trims leading and trailing whitespace from cells.

unmerge_cells

ChatGPT
Unmerges previously merged cells.

update_borders

ChatGPT
Updates border formatting of cells in a range.

update_cells

ChatGPT
Updates multiple cells at once with formatting and values.

update_chart_spec

ChatGPT
Updates an existing chart's specification (type, data ranges, styling).

update_dimension_properties

ChatGPT
Updates row height or column width properties.

update_embedded_object_position

ChatGPT
Moves and/or resizes an embedded object (a chart or image) by changing its anchor cell, pixel offsets, width or height. Only the given fields change; the chart spec is untouched (use update_chart_spec for content changes). Keep moves and spec edits as separate calls.

update_sheet_properties

ChatGPT
Updates properties of an existing sheet (title, hidden state, grid size, colors, etc.).

update_table

ChatGPT
Renames a native Google Sheets table, changes its range (e.g. to cover rows appended below it) or replaces its typed columns / dropdown options. Only the given fields change. A table's range must cover every used row and column of the table; end indexes are exclusive.
