Overview

Texeno is an online LaTeX editor for academic and technical writing: research papers, journal articles, theses and dissertations, reports, Beamer slides and CVs. Connect it to ChatGPT to work on your LaTeX projects in conversation. What you can do: - Start a new LaTeX document, blank or from a template (article, thesis, slides, CV and many more), and add chapters and files. - Write and edit LaTeX: sections, math equations, tables, figures, TikZ, BibTeX and biblatex references. Changes arrive as tracked suggestions you accept or reject in Texeno, unless you ask for them to be applied directly. - Compile to PDF, read LaTeX errors and warnings with their file and line, and fix them. - Look at your figures and the pages of your compiled PDF to check the layout, and download the PDF. For security, the download link works once and expires after an hour. - Proofread and rewrite text, search a project, count words, browse version history, and reply to or resolve your co-authors' comments. You sign in with your Texeno account. ChatGPT sees only the projects you can open, with the same role you have on each, and you can disconnect it at any time in Texeno under Settings, Integrations. Anyone with the file open in Texeno sees the edits arrive as they are made. Limits: new files are text files, pictures over 4 MB are described rather than shown, and compiles follow your plan's time limit in Texeno.

Tools

compile_project

ChatGPT
Compile the project (LaTeX, ConTeXt or Typst, as its settings say), as the editor's Recompile does, and wait for the result (up to about 50 seconds): status, errors and warnings with file and line, and the end of the log. Compile before saying a document builds. If it is still running, use get_compile_result.

create_file

ChatGPT
Create a new text file in a project, such as chapters/introduction.tex or references.bib (folders are made as needed; it must not exist yet). Its content appears at once; to have people watch a long text being written, start it short and add to it with edit_file.

create_project

ChatGPT
Start a new LaTeX, ConTeXt or Typst project in the person's own workspace, blank or from a template.

delete_file

ChatGPT
Remove a file from a project. It stays in the project's history and can be restored from there.

edit_file

ChatGPT
Write, insert, append or change text in a file (LaTeX, ConTeXt, Typst, BibTeX, any text) by replacing exact snippets. To add text, replace a snippet with itself plus the new text (to append, use the file's last line). By default the changes are tracked suggestions the project's people accept or reject in the editor; set apply_directly only when the person asks for the text to change outright. Read the file first: each old_text must match exactly once. People with the file open watch the edit typed out live.

fetch

ChatGPT
The full text of a result from search: a file, or a project's overview with its main file.

get_account

ChatGPT
Who is connected to Texeno: their name, email, plan and how long their compiles may run.

get_compile_result

ChatGPT
How the project's newest compile went: status, errors and warnings with file and line, the end of the log, and a link to the PDF.

get_page_image

ChatGPT
A page of the project's newest compiled PDF as an image, to check how it looks (layout, figures, tables, line breaks). Compile first if the PDF is out of date.

get_pdf

ChatGPT
A download link for the project's newest compiled PDF, to give the person. For security the link works once and expires after an hour; tell the person so, and make a new one if they need it again.

get_project

ChatGPT
A project's settings (main file, engine, TeX Live year or Typst version, draft mode) and every file and folder in it. Use these exact paths with read_file and edit_file.

list_comments

ChatGPT
The project's comment threads: the text commented on, its file and line, and the discussion.

list_projects

ChatGPT
The person's Texeno projects (LaTeX, ConTeXt or Typst documents), newest first, with their role on each. Use an id from here with the other tools.

list_suggestions

ChatGPT
The tracked changes waiting for review in each file (insertions and deletions, who made them, where).

list_versions

ChatGPT
A project's history, newest first: when, who, which files changed. Read a file as it was with read_file's at_version.

read_file

ChatGPT
A file's text with line numbers, as it is now (including what people are typing) or at a version from list_versions. Long files come in pages: continue with start_line. Pictures (PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF) come back as images to look at, a PDF file as an image of its first page; other binary files are described.

reply_to_comment

ChatGPT
Add a reply to a comment thread (at most 200 per thread). A reply reopens a resolved thread.

resolve_comment

ChatGPT
Mark a comment thread resolved, once what it asked for is done.

search_project

ChatGPT
Find text (or an RE2 regular expression) in every text file of a project.

search_templates

ChatGPT
Search Texeno's public template gallery of LaTeX, ConTeXt and Typst documents (journals, theses, CVs, slides...). Start a project from one with create_project.

update_project_settings

ChatGPT
Change a project's compiler (and so its language: LaTeX, ConTeXt or Typst), main file, Typst version or TeX Live year. Only what is given changes. Switching language doesn't convert the files: the main file must be in that language (main.typ for Typst, say).

word_count

ChatGPT
The word count of the project's document (its main file and what it includes): LaTeX counted as TeXcount does, ConTeXt and Typst likewise.
