create_chart
ChatGPTSaves a configuration as a new chart in your UniformChart account and returns its id. It never changes an existing chart. Write the configuration against get_authoring_guide.
display_chart
ChatGPTShows a finished chart in the conversation: the chart as a picture, with the image file and the configuration behind it attached to download, and lasting links to both. Use it once, when the chart is finished — not to check work in progress, which is what render_chart is for. Names the chart by id, by a configuration just built, or by neither for the chart you have open. Refuses to show a chart the UniformChart library reports errors for.
get_authoring_guide
ChatGPTThe UniformChart documentation: the IBCS design guide, the reference algorithm for each template family, and the full list of valid chart properties. Use it to look up how a chart should be built, or why a configuration is not valid. General charting knowledge does not transfer to this library: read the sections that bear on a change BEFORE writing or changing a configuration. Call with no arguments for the index; then name a document and a heading to read one section. Whole documents are large (the algorithms alone are ~31k tokens), so prefer sections.
get_chart
ChatGPTOpens one of your saved charts and returns its full configuration, together with a rendering of it and anything the UniformChart library reports about it.
get_current_chart
ChatGPTReads the chart you currently have open in the UniformChart editor, including edits you have just typed and charts you have started but not saved. Use this for "this chart" or "what I am looking at". Empty when no editor has been open recently.
get_template
ChatGPTThe IBCS template catalogue — the same templates the UniformChart website offers. With no code: every template with its code, what it shows and the series types it draws. With a code (e.g. "C08B", or a family like "C08"): that template's complete configuration, the starting point for a new chart. Swap in the person's data, check with render_chart, then create_chart or display_chart. Prefer starting from the closest template over writing a configuration from scratch.
list_charts
ChatGPTLists the charts saved in your UniformChart account, with their titles, when each last changed and whether it is published. The charts themselves are not included — use get_chart to open one.
render_chart
ChatGPTDraws a chart from a configuration and reports anything the UniformChart library finds wrong with it, with the location and a suggested fix for each problem. Nothing is saved and nothing is shown — this is for checking a chart before saving or presenting it.
show_in_editor
ChatGPTPuts a chart on screen in your open UniformChart editor, as a change to the chart you are looking at. It is stored with the rest of that chart's history and undoable from it. This is the right tool for showing work: it reaches a chart that is not saved yet, or a template, which update_chart cannot, and it never touches a stored chart nobody is looking at. Use update_chart to write a saved chart back instead.
update_chart
ChatGPTReplaces the configuration of one of your saved charts. The previous version is kept, so the change can be undone in the editor. Refuses to silently drop series — pass allowDatasetRemoval only when removal is what was asked for. Check the change against get_authoring_guide.
