Overview

VisualNeuroscience.AI is a free, detailed 3D atlas of the human brain on the web, iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Vision Pro. This connector answers from the atlas's own data, and every answer carries a link that opens the same view in the atlas. Ask which parts of the brain recognise faces, what Brodmann area 44 does and what borders it, where dopamine D2 receptors are densest, or how the brain's networks change in a flow state. Five tools work without an account: Search the brain atlas: regions, Brodmann areas, network nodes and receptor structures, by name, number or function. About one brain region: what each AAL-116 region does and which layer of the brain it belongs to. About one Brodmann area: name, lobe, function and measured neighbours for all 41 areas. Receptor density in a structure: in vivo PET and ex vivo autoradiography across 45 regions, each value with its tracer, sample and citation. A brain state as a network story: six states, from rest and focused attention to threat and flow, with the studies each one is drawn from. Four more work on your own VisualNeuroscience.AI account once you sign in on the site and press Allow: see which account is connected, list and open your saved Region Atlas models, and save a new model, which then appears in the app on every device. Saving only ever creates; nothing is replaced or deleted. The data comes from published sources: the AAL-116 parcellation on the MNI152 template, the Brodmann areas of the MRIcron atlas, and receptor maps from Hansen et al. 2022 and Zilles and Palomero-Gallagher 2017. The server keeps no record of your questions. The atlas is educational reference material, not medical advice.

Tools

brain_state

Claude
How the brain's large-scale networks reconfigure in one state — flow, meditation and others — which couplings strengthen, which fall quiet, and the literature the composite is read from. Call without a state to list the states.

brodmann_area

Claude
One Brodmann area by number (1–48): its anatomical name, lobe, what it does, the caveat that belongs with it, and which areas it actually borders, measured off the atlas volume.

list_models

Claude
The Region Atlas models saved to the signed-in person's account, each with the regions it holds and a link that opens it. Needs sign-in.

load_model

Claude
One of the signed-in person's saved Region Atlas models by name: the regions and Brodmann areas it holds, and a link that opens it highlighted on the scan. Needs sign-in.

my_account

Claude
The signed-in person's VisualNeuroscience.AI account: username, university and email. Needs sign-in.

receptor_density

Claude
Receptor density in one AAL region, or where one receptor is densest across the 45 cerebral regions, from two open sources kept apart: in vivo PET (19 receptors and transporters, Hansen et al. 2022 compilation, reported as the tracer's measure and as a share of the receptor's densest region) and ex vivo autoradiography (15 receptors, Zilles & Palomero-Gallagher 2017, fmol/mg protein). Give a region, a receptor, or both.

region_info

Claude
What one AAL region does, which layer of the brain it belongs to, and how to see it. Accepts the region's name, loosely ('hippocampus', 'inferior frontal gyrus').

save_model

Claude
Save a new Region Atlas model to the signed-in person's account from a list of regions and Brodmann areas, so it appears in the app's Saved models and opens highlighted on the scan. Items are AAL region names ('hippocampus', 'left amygdala', 'R:Putamen') and Brodmann areas ('BA17', 'B:44'). Creates only: a name already in use is refused, never replaced. Needs sign-in.

search_brain

Claude
Search everything at once — AAL regions, Brodmann areas, network nodes and receptor structures — by name, number or function ('faces', 'working memory', 'BA17', 'hippocampus'). Returns matches with what each one does and a link that opens it in the atlas.
