finance_account_details
ChatGPTRead one of the authenticated user's Wealthfront accounts by accountId. Returns the account type and total value, plus cash balances for cash accounts, or uninvested cash and holdings grouped by asset class for investment accounts. Use this tool for current account value, cash balances, holdings, and unrealized gains or losses. Holdings without a ticker symbol or CUSIP, such as 529 plan portfolios, are identified by name. It does not provide historical, time-weighted, money-weighted, YTD, or since-inception returns. Use finance_investing_account_tax_lots for lot-level tax questions. Amounts are in the currency named by the currency field, as of the asOf timestamp. Unavailable fields are omitted rather than reported as zero. Closed, closing, and unfunded accounts cannot be read.
finance_cash_account_transactions
ChatGPTReturn posted and pending transactions for a Wealthfront cash account, identified by accountId as returned by get_accounts. Only cash accounts are supported; investment and Portfolio Line of Credit accounts are rejected. The requested range runs from startDate through endDate, both inclusive. startDate defaults to the day the account was opened and endDate defaults to today; endDate never extends past today, so asking for a future date simply returns activity through today. The response's windowStart and windowEnd always report the range actually covered. At most 30 days are returned per call, so a range longer than 30 days returns its newest 30 days together with a nextEndDate, ordered most recent first. To page backwards, send startDate exactly as you sent it before and replace only endDate with the previous response's nextEndDate; endDate is the only argument that changes between pages. When nextEndDate is absent, everything in the requested range has been returned. Each response covers windowStart through windowEnd completely, so the transactions in a single response can be totalled without double counting or gaps. The one exception is partialDate: when it is present it names the single date that had too many transactions to return in full, and that date's totals are incomplete. Amounts are signed, with a negative amount meaning money left the account and a positive amount meaning money entered it. Scheduled and upcoming transfers are excluded, so every returned transaction has already posted or is pending. This is a live view of the account rather than a fixed ledger: a pending transaction can later change its amount or state, and corrections can be backdated into an earlier window, so a window read previously is not guaranteed to still match.
finance_investing_account_tax_lots
ChatGPTReturn currently open tax lots for a taxable Wealthfront investment account, identified by accountId as returned by get_accounts. Non-taxable accounts, cash accounts, closed accounts, and unfunded accounts are rejected. Only use this tool for lot-level tax questions. Do not use it as the client's current holdings or portfolio-value source. Use finance_account_details for current holdings and account value. Only open lots are returned; closed lots and intraday (same-day, not yet settled) lots are excluded. holdingPeriodStartDate is the date that determines the holding period. When a wash sale applies it is the adjusted date, so it is not always the date the shares were purchased. Values are priced as of lotsAsOf, not in real time. asOf is when the response was assembled. Unavailable fields are omitted rather than reported as zero. Optional filters narrow the lots by symbol, holding-period term (LONG_TERM or SHORT_TERM), and unrealized gain or loss (AT_GAIN or AT_LOSS). Optional maxResponseTokens overrides the server's default response size budget; if omitted, the server chooses the budget. Large accounts may return TOO_MANY_RESULTS with a breakdown and guidance instead of the full lot list; resubmit with filters or a larger maxResponseTokens to narrow or fit the results. A coverage block carries warnings about completeness, freshness, and omitted lots. This output is tax lot data and is not tax advice.
get_accounts
ChatGPTList the client's Wealthfront Cash, Investing, and Portfolio Line of Credit accounts with their latest available balances and account reference IDs. These reference IDs are used by MCP tools and are not client-facing account numbers. Account reference IDs are opaque tool inputs, you do not need to display them to the client. Before calling an account-specific tool, call this tool if no reference ID has been verified in the conversation.
get_investing_strategy
ChatGPTReturns the product name and current and target asset-allocation percentages for a Wealthfront-managed account. Use this tool for managed strategy and allocation questions. It does not support self-directed accounts such as Stock Investing or managed products without a comparable allocation, such as the Automated Bond Ladder. This tool reports portfolio information and does not recommend allocation changes. Do not use this tool for account value, holdings, gains or losses, or portfolio performance. Use finance_account_details for point-in-time account information.
list_wealthfront_products
ChatGPTList Wealthfront's products with a plain-language description and a link to learn more.
portfolio_edit_prepare
ChatGPTValidate a client-specified set of target weights for a customized investing portfolio and return a link for the client to review and apply the change. This tool prepares a review link; it does not apply the allocation automatically. Only use this tool for investing accounts whose investing strategy source is CUSTOM, as reported by the assetAllocation.source field of get_investing_strategy; accounts that follow a Wealthfront-recommended allocation cannot be edited with this tool. The proposed weights must come from the client and are not recommendations or investment advice from Wealthfront. Do not call this tool to test, preview, or validate an example. Call it only after the client has selected the complete allocation. Pass the selected weights through unchanged and ensure they sum to 100.
