render_widget
ChatGPTRender a self-contained HTML/CSS/classic-JavaScript widget. No direct external network or external libraries. Use await WidgetCanvas.callTool(name, argumentsObject) to call tools exposed to this app by the host. It returns the full MCP result; check isError and catch transport errors. Host permissions and app tool visibility still apply; this does not expose internal Personal Context or other apps automatically. Calls time out after 60 seconds and may still complete; do not automatically retry writes. get_runtime_info is a read-only available tool and accepts an optional nonce string. Use WidgetCanvas.getState(), setState(JSON), report(text), and sendMessage(text). Use await WidgetCanvas.setContext(JSON) after meaningful selections or edits to make compact relevant data available to the next conversation turn without sending a message or showing a button. It accepts at most 8 KiB; catch errors. Its acknowledgment confirms host acceptance, not that a model has read it. Keep UI-only state in setState; do not publish animation frames, secrets, or instructions as context. Reset and sharing are both hidden by default, leaving only the widget. Call WidgetCanvas.setResetEnabled(true) only when a restart control is useful; setResetEnabled(false) hides it. The options menu is absent when both reset and sharing are disabled. Choose an unobtrusive corner for each widget with WidgetCanvas.setControlsPosition("top-right"|"top-left"|"bottom-right"|"bottom-left") at startup; top-right is the default. You may reposition it when the layout changes. Avoid overlapping primary controls or readable content. Send state to ChatGPT is hidden by default: call WidgetCanvas.setSharingEnabled(true) only for widgets explicitly designed to share useful saved data with the conversation; setSharingEnabled(false) hides it again. Saving UI preferences or a counter does not opt in. Opt-in only reveals the button; data is shared only when the user clicks it. sendMessage creates a visible user follow-up in the current ChatGPT conversation and must only be called synchronously from an explicit user interaction such as a click or form submit; never call it automatically, on load, from timers, or in loops. Read getState() at startup and listen for window widgetcanvas:restore events with JSON event.detail to refresh controls after delayed restoration. Supply complete source for every revision, and previous widgetId/revision to preserve lineage. Old instances remain historical. Validation only checks size/schema/syntax; do not claim functional verification.
