Overview

BowlWise scores dog foods for one specific dog. Tell Claude your dog's size and age, and anything else that matters (activity, weight goal, allergies, weight, a budget, a brand or a format such as freeze-dried), and Claude answers from BowlWise: the best matches with a score out of 100, the main reasons, the price in Canadian dollars with the date it was checked, and a link to the shop. If Claude answers without BowlWise, start your question with "Use BowlWise". What you can ask: - What should I feed my dog? The best matches for your dog, inside any limits you set. - Why did this food score what it did? The points on each of six scoring factors, and what held it back. - Which of these two is better for her? Both scores, a verdict, and protein, fat and fibre compared on a dry-matter basis. - How much do I feed, and what does it cost a month? For the weight you give. - What is in it? Label facts, the AAFCO statement, and a check for any ingredient. The scores are BowlWise's own, worked out from each food's label data and the published AAFCO, NRC and WSAVA standards. The same dog gets the same scores as on bowlwise.app. BowlWise covers more than 250 dog foods from 15 brands sold in Canada: kibble, gently cooked, air-dried and freeze-dried. No account and no sign-in. BowlWise only reads: nothing can be changed through Claude, and your dog's details are not stored. It is for dogs only, it does not take health conditions, and it is not veterinary advice.

Tools

compare_foods

Claude
Compare two dog foods for one dog: both scores, a verdict, protein, fat and fibre on a dry-matter basis, calories, price, and cost per day when weight_kg is given. Use this for "compare the top two", "which of these is better for her?" or "A or B?". food_a and food_b are ids from an earlier BowlWise result, or the foods' names. The dog is described in every call. BowlWise remembers nothing between calls, so the same size, age_group, activity, weight_goal, allergies and weight_kg as in the earlier call give the same dog. size and age_group are required and have no default: they are what the person has said about the dog. - size by adult weight: small is under 9 kg (20 lb), medium is 9 to 23 kg (20 to 50 lb), large is over 23 kg (50 lb). - age_group: puppy is under 1 year, adult is 1 to 7 years, senior is 8 years or older. activity and weight_goal are optional. Left out, medium activity and maintenance are assumed, and the result names them under assumed. Health conditions are not an input: this tool does not use them.

explain_score

Claude
Explain why a dog food got its BowlWise score for one dog: the points earned on each scoring factor, the main reasons and what held the score back. Use this for "why is the first one ranked highest?", "why did this one get 78?" or "why is this food not recommended?". If the food is not offered for this dog (an allergy, the wrong life stage, a low score), the result says why. food is the id from an earlier BowlWise result, or the food's name. Health conditions are not an input: this tool does not use them.

feeding_and_cost

Claude
How much of a dog food one dog eats a day, in grams and in cups for kibble, what that costs per day and per month in Canadian dollars, and how long a bag lasts. Use this for "how much do I feed her?" or "what does it cost a month?". weight_kg is needed for an amount and has no default: it is the dog's weight in kilograms (1 lb is 0.4536 kg). Puppies and toppers get no calculated amount: the result points to the label. food is the id from an earlier BowlWise result, or the food's name. - age_group: puppy is under 1 year, adult is 1 to 7 years, senior is 8 years or older. activity and weight_goal are optional. find_dog_food

Claude
Rank dog foods for one dog and return the best matches with a score out of 100, the main reasons, the price in Canadian dollars with the date it was checked, and a link to buy. Use this when someone asks what to feed their dog or which food suits their dog, and again whenever they narrow it down: under a price, a format such as freeze-dried, a brand, a protein to have or avoid, grain-free, meals or toppers. "Anything under $90 that is freeze-dried?" is the same dog with max_price 90 and formats ["freeze_dried"]. size and age_group are required and have no default: they are what the person has said about the dog. Left out, medium activity and maintenance are assumed, and the result names them under assumed. allergies are plain words such as chicken, beef, grain or poultry. BowlWise remembers nothing between calls: every call takes the dog's description again, with any limits. Each match has an id, which names that food in a later call. Health conditions are not an input: this tool does not use them.

food_facts

Claude
Facts about one dog food from its label: protein, fat, fibre and other guaranteed analysis values, calories, the AAFCO statement, format, life stage, storage, bag size, price in Canadian dollars with the date it was checked, and where to buy it. Use this for a question about a specific food, such as "is it complete and balanced?", "how much protein does it have?" or "how do I store it?". A fact BowlWise does not have is listed under missing. food is the id from an earlier BowlWise result, or the food's name. No dog details are needed. The full ingredient list is left out unless include_ingredients is true. This tool does not search a label for one ingredient.

has_ingredient

Claude
Check whether a dog food contains an ingredient, and quote the matching ingredients from its label. Use this for "does it have fish?", "is there chicken in it?" or "any grain?". Group words work: poultry, seafood, grain, legumes. The result also lists ingredients that do not name their source (such as natural flavour), which cannot be checked. food is the id from an earlier BowlWise result, or the food's name. No dog details are needed.

search_foods

Claude
Find a dog food in BowlWise by name and get its id. Use this when the person names a food ("Acana Pacifica", "the Orijen puppy one") and its id is needed, or to see whether BowlWise has it. status is one (a single food matched), several (more than one food matches the name) or none (the food is not in BowlWise).
