Overview

Plateful is where you keep the recipes you actually cook, shared with everyone in your household. This plugin brings that library into ChatGPT. Ask what to make tonight and the answer comes from recipes you have already saved and rated, not from the open web. Paste a recipe out of a conversation and save it straight to your library. Adjust servings and keep the result. Sort loose recipes into collections, or record what you thought of a dish after you cooked it.

Tools

add_to_shopping_list

ChatGPT
Adds typed items ("2 kg Äpfel", "Milch") and/or whole recipes' ingredients to the household's shopping list, in one call. Recipe ingredients are scaled to servings and merged with what is already on the list: the same product sums up, a product already bought starts a fresh trip. Pantry staples are left out unless asked for. To shop for the week, pass the recipe ids from get_meal_plan. Returns the items that were added or changed, as the list now shows them.

create_collection

ChatGPT
Creates a new recipe collection (folder) in the household. Names are unique per household, ignoring case. Name it in the household's language (see get_context). Leave color_key out unless the user asks for a colour; the household's least-used palette colour is chosen.

create_recipe

ChatGPT
Saves a new recipe to the household's Plateful library. It becomes visible to every household member immediately. Write the recipe in the household's language (see get_context) and prefer metric units. A cover image is generated automatically in the background, and when you omit nutrition the per-serving values are estimated there too — both appear in the app shortly after saving, so tell the user they are on the way rather than that they are missing. Returns the saved recipe as stored, including how each ingredient line was parsed — check it rather than assuming. Hosts that support UI components render the result as a Plateful card with an "Open in Plateful" button, so do not also paste url as a link in your reply — a chat link opens an in-app browser with no Plateful session.

delete_recipe

ChatGPT
Permanently deletes a recipe from the household's Plateful library. THIS CANNOT BE UNDONE. There is no trash and no restore: the recipe, its ingredients, its steps, its ratings and any meal-plan entries pointing at it are all removed, for every household member. Confirm with the user before calling this, and make sure you have the right recipe — check it with get_recipe first if there is any doubt.

get_context

ChatGPT
Returns who the signed-in Plateful user is, which household their recipes belong to, and how much is in it. Call this once before other tools when you need to know the household's language (recipes should be written in it) or whether the library is empty. Plateful is a shared meal-planning app: every recipe and collection belongs to a household, so anything created or edited here is visible to all its members.

get_import_status

ChatGPT
Checks a running recipe import started by import_recipe_from_url or import_recipe_from_text. Returns status 'importing' while it runs, 'ready' with the finished recipe summaries (including each recipe's url and image_url), or 'failed' with the reason. While the user waits, poll every few seconds; stop as soon as the status is 'ready' or 'failed'. A 'failed' import cannot be retried through this tool — tell the user what went wrong; they can retry from the Plateful app's Home screen.

get_meal_plan

ChatGPT
Lists what the household has planned between two dates: recipes and notes ("Eating out") per day and meal type. Entries with date: null are the pool — chosen but not yet given a day (pool entries already cooked are left out, as in the app). Each recipe carries a url that opens it in Plateful and servings the recipe is written for. Pass the dates explicitly (yyyy-MM-dd); there is no default week. Use placement ids with remove_meals, and recipe ids with add_to_shopping_list to shop for the plan.

get_recipe

ChatGPT
Returns one complete Plateful recipe: ingredients, numbered steps, per-serving nutrition, collections and ratings. Hosts that support UI components render this as a Plateful card with the photo and an "Open in Plateful" button, so do not also paste url as a link in your reply — a chat link opens an in-app browser with no Plateful session. When servings is set, the ingredient quantities are for that many servings — scale them proportionally if the user wants a different amount. A null servings means the recipe never recorded one, so take the quantities as written. Get recipe ids from search_recipes.

get_shopping_list

ChatGPT
Lists the household's shopping list in store-walk order by aisle, each item with its summed amount and the recipes it came from. With include_recently_bought, also returns the last items ticked off, which set_shopping_items_bought can put back with bought: false.

import_recipe_from_text

ChatGPT
Starts creating a Plateful recipe from free text: a pasted recipe, rough notes, or a described idea ('a quick weeknight dal for four'). Plateful's AI structures it into ingredients and steps, estimates nutrition and generates a cover image. Runs in the background: this returns an import_id immediately; poll get_import_status with it, or let the user watch it finish on Plateful's Home screen. Prefer create_recipe when you already have exact, structured ingredients and steps to save verbatim — this tool is for unstructured text that needs interpreting. By default the recipe is written in the household's language (see get_context); pass language to override.

import_recipe_from_url

ChatGPT
Starts importing a recipe into Plateful from a web page, Instagram, TikTok or YouTube link. Plateful fetches the page, extracts the recipe (splitting into several recipes if the source contains more than one) and files it in the household library. Runs in the background: this returns an import_id immediately, and the import typically finishes in well under a minute. Poll get_import_status with the import_id to get the finished recipes; the user also sees the import running on Plateful's Home screen and gets a push notification when it is done, so polling is optional if the user does not want to wait. By default the recipe is written in the household's language (see get_context); pass language to override.

list_collections

ChatGPT
Lists the household's recipe collections (folders) with how many recipes each holds. Use the ids with search_recipes to browse one collection, or with set_recipe_collections to file a recipe.

plan_meals

ChatGPT
Adds recipes and notes to the household's meal plan, each on a day (or in the pool with date: null) and a meal type. Additive: existing entries stay. To move an entry, remove it with remove_meals and plan it again. Plan a recipe on several days by listing it once per day. The plan is shared, so every household member sees the change in the app at once.

rate_recipe

ChatGPT
Records the signed-in user's rating of a recipe, from 1 to 5 stars, with an optional note. Each person has one rating per recipe — calling this again replaces their previous one rather than adding a second. Ratings and notes are visible to the whole household.

recalculate_nutrition

ChatGPT
Re-estimates one recipe's per-serving nutrition from its current ingredients and OVERWRITES all seven stored values. Use it when the ingredients changed enough that the stored values are stale. Confirm first if the user may have entered values by hand — those are replaced too. New recipes get values automatically; this tool is for refreshing existing ones. Returns the recipe as saved, rendered as a Plateful card on hosts that support UI components.

regenerate_cover

ChatGPT
Generates a fresh AI cover image for one recipe, REPLACING whatever cover it has — including a photo the user added themselves, which cannot be restored. Confirm with the user before calling this on a recipe that already has a cover; a recipe without one needs no confirmation. The cover is generated in the background and appears in the app within about a minute — tell the user it is on the way rather than polling get_recipe for it.

remove_meals

ChatGPT
Removes entries from the meal plan by placement id (from get_meal_plan or plan_meals). The recipes themselves stay in the library. Returns how many were removed; fewer than asked means some ids no longer existed.

remove_recipe_from_shopping_list

ChatGPT
Takes one recipe's ingredients off the shopping list again. Items that only came from this recipe leave the list; items shared with other recipes or typed by hand shrink to what remains. Returns the list as it stands afterwards.

search_recipes

ChatGPT
Searches the household's Plateful recipe library across name, ingredients and description — typo-tolerant, best match first (newest first when browsing without query). Structured filters combine with the text: ingredient filters take canonical slugs (English, kebab-case, singular — chicken, eggplant; excluding peanut also drops peanut-butter), tags takes only its enum values, and the numeric constraints are per serving. Ingredient exclusion is a best-effort filter over parsed ingredients, not an allergy guarantee. Returns a compact summary of each match — call get_recipe for ingredients, steps and nutrition. Name the recipes in your reply rather than pasting their url as a link: on mobile a chat link opens an in-app browser with no Plateful session, which dead-ends. If the user wants one, call get_recipe — that renders a card with a working button. Omit query to browse everything. Results are always limited to the signed-in user's household.

set_recipe_collections

ChatGPT
Sets exactly which collections a recipe belongs to, replacing its current ones. Pass the complete list — collections you leave out are removed. Pass an empty list to take the recipe out of every collection.

set_shopping_items_bought

ChatGPT
Ticks items off the shopping list (bought: true, the default) or puts ticked items back (bought: false), by item id from get_shopping_list. This is the list's everyday tick, the same tap as in the Plateful app, not a delete: the product stays known to the household with its aisle and keeps its amount, and bought: false brings it back. A put-back item counts as added by hand, so remove_recipe_from_shopping_list no longer takes it off.

update_recipe

ChatGPT
Changes an existing recipe. Only the fields you pass are touched; anything omitted keeps its current value, and passing null clears a field. ingredients and instructions are REPLACED wholesale, not merged — to change one line, call get_recipe first and send the full list back with your edit applied. Stored nutrition does not update on its own: after a substantial ingredient change, offer recalculate_nutrition (empty nutrition is filled automatically, existing values are not touched). Edits are visible to every household member. Returns the recipe as saved, rendered as a Plateful card on hosts that support UI components — do not also paste url as a link in your reply.
