LaTeX Compiler

by Purplelink LLC

Overview

Send a complete LaTeX document, and optionally the text of its .bib file, and get back the PDF, a picture of the first page, and every error and warning explained in plain language: what it means, how to fix it, and the line it is on. The assistant can use this to check LaTeX it writes before handing it over, and to fix its own mistakes. A second tool explains an error message or a whole TeX log that you paste, without compiling. Engines: pdfLaTeX and XeLaTeX (use XeLaTeX for Unicode text). Limits: one .tex file of up to 300 KB plus an optional bibliography, 45 seconds per compile, PDFs up to 4 MB are attached. Images and other files cannot be sent, so \includegraphics of an image file fails; shell escape is off. Purplelink compiles the document on its own server, returns the result and deletes the files when the compile ends. Nothing is stored, and logs hold only counts (engine, number of errors and pages), never your text. For students, researchers and anyone writing LaTeX with an assistant.

Tools

compile_latex

Claude
Compile one complete LaTeX document (from \documentclass to \end{document}) with TeX Live and latexmk, and return the PDF, an image of page 1, and every error or warning explained in plain language with a fix and the line number. Optionally pass the contents of a .bib file as bibliography; it is saved under the name the document uses (\bibliography{refs} or \addbibresource{refs.bib}). Engines: pdflatex (default) or xelatex (use it for Unicode text or system fonts). Limits: 300 KB of source, 45 seconds. Only the one file and its bibliography are available, so \includegraphics of image files and \input of other files will fail; shell escape is off. Use after writing or editing LaTeX to confirm it builds before giving it to the user. Nothing is stored.

explain_latex_error

Claude
Explain a LaTeX error or warning in plain language and say how to fix it, without compiling. Accepts one message (for example 'Undefined control sequence' or 'Missing $ inserted') or a pasted TeX log, from which every error and warning is explained. Use when the user pastes an error from Overleaf, TeXShop or a terminal. Nothing is stored.
