Overview

Tucktale is a tool for parents and caregivers. You set up a bedtime story series once, and every night ChatGPT writes the next episode for your child to listen to, while Tucktale remembers the whole story so far and reads each episode aloud. Set up the series by telling ChatGPT about it: two or three main characters (your child's favourite toys, animals or made-up friends), where the stories happen, one to three values to weave in (such as kindness, courage or trying again), the listener's age band (3-4, 5-6, 7-8 or 9-10) and how long an episode should be (about 3, 6 or 10 minutes). Each night, ask for "tonight's Tucktale episode". ChatGPT gets the story so far from Tucktale (a recap of every earlier episode, the facts already established, last time's hook and tonight's value) and writes the next episode to fit. It works in any new chat: the series lives in Tucktale, not in one conversation. ChatGPT writes every episode to Tucktale's bedtime rules (gentle stakes, no violence or scary creatures, no characters or brands from books, films or shows, a calm ending). Before saving it, Tucktale checks it for unsuitable words, well-known characters and personal details, then narrates it in a minute or two with a calm voice, using an open text-to-speech model on Tucktale's own server. Choose from four voices. Play the episode in the card in ChatGPT, or without a screen: on your private listening page or in any podcast app through the series' private podcast feed. A season is ten episodes by default; at any point you can download the season as a book laid out for print. Change anything later: the characters, the voice, the length, things to keep out of the stories, or ask for a calmer or shorter version of tonight's episode. Limits: - Narration is in English. - Tucktale never asks for a child's name, age, school or photo. Use toys and made-up names; the age is an age band. - Only the newest episode can be rewritten, so the story stays consistent. - Series are deleted 12 months after their last new episode or change, or at once when you say "Delete my Tucktale series".

Tools

create_series

ChatGPT
Use this when a parent or caregiver wants to set up a bedtime story series that continues night after night (Tucktale). Saves the series once: the main characters (toys, animals or made-up friends), the setting, 1-3 values, the listener's age band, the episode length and the narration voice. Returns the series, its private listening link and a summary suitable to show the user. It writes no episode yet; get_episode_brief and save_episode handle episodes. A series holds no real child's name or personal details. Repeating the same call within 2 minutes returns the same series.

delete_series

ChatGPT
Use this when the parent asks to delete a series. Deletes the series, every episode, every narration, the listening link, the podcast feed and the book files at once. Can't be undone.

get_episode_brief

ChatGPT
Use this when the parent asks for tonight's (or the next) episode of their Tucktale series. Returns everything the episode is written from: the episode number, the characters and setting, a recap of every earlier episode, the facts established so far, last time's hook, tonight's value, the word count for the chosen length, the listener's age band style and the bedtime rules. save_episode stores the finished episode. Without series it uses the parent's most recent series. Read-only.

rewrite_episode

ChatGPT
Use this when the parent asks to change the newest episode (for example calmer, shorter, longer, or without something). Replaces that episode's title, text and summary and records its narration again; the old version is gone. The new version can be any length from short to long (180-1820 words), so a shorter or longer version of tonight's episode leaves the series' length setting as it is; the series' length (update_series) is for every later episode. Only the newest episode can be rewritten, so later episodes stay consistent. The same content checks as save_episode. A second rewrite within 30 seconds is treated as a repeat of the first and changes nothing.

save_episode

ChatGPT
Use this right after writing the episode that get_episode_brief described. Saves the next episode of the series (its number is the brief's episode_number) and starts recording its narration as audio, which takes a minute or two; the card shows the story and plays it, and the series' listening link and podcast feed get it. Refuses a story outside the word range, without paragraphs, with unsuitable words, personal details or characters from books, films or shows, and says what to change. Sending the newest episode again within 10 minutes returns it instead of adding another. The result's summary is suitable to show the user.

show_series

ChatGPT
Use this when the parent wants to see a Tucktale series: its settings, episodes and narration status, and its listening link and podcast feed. Without series it shows the most recent one, or a list when the parent has several. Read-only.

update_series

ChatGPT
Use this when the parent asks to change a series' settings: characters (the list given replaces the old one), setting, title, values, age band, length, voice, episodes per season or things to avoid. Future episodes follow the new settings; saved episodes stay as they are, and a new length applies to every later episode (a shorter or calmer version of tonight's episode alone is a rewrite_episode). new_listening_link: true replaces the private listening link and podcast feed (the old ones stop working; asking again within 2 minutes keeps the link just made). The old settings are overwritten.
